| | Tommy Newsom Friendly Fire CD (2001)
Guitar Blues CD music
$9.95 Tommy Newsom spent such a long time in the Tonight Show Orchestra that jazz fans overlook his contributions. Finally recording regularly as a leader at the dawn of the 21st century, this solidly swinging tenor saxophonist has plenty to say on this studio session, which covers ...
| | Catfish Keith Fist Full Of Riffs CD (2001)
Guitar Blues music CDs
$13.85 Some people fill a record with personality. Catfish Keith is one. Not only is his guitar picking out of this world, but a real sense of the pleasure he gets from playing comes through the speakers. Mixing it up with blues, New Orleans tunes, Caribbean music, Hawaiian picking, and a smidgen of ragtime on his eighth album, he's all over the place -- but a delight to follow. That's he's world class is beyond question, but there's more going in his work than just expansive technique. There's ...
| | Mike Dowling Bottomlands CD (2001)
Guitar Blues songs
$13.85 To call Mike Dowling a master guitarist is stating the obvious, as he's proved before. But this instrumental collection takes him in some interesting directions. While nominally bluesy, it's really more of a journey through American roots music, with stops in ragtime ("Bottleneck March") and gospel (his take on the classic "Amazing Grace"), and several other places around the way. While he's not averse to being upbeat and dextrous, Dowling's at his best when his playing is more thoughtful and considered, like the softer "Hard Times," which closes ...
| | Kenny Sultan West Coast Blues CD (2001)
Guitar Blues album
$14.69 It's impossible to fault Kenny Sultan's playing on West Coast Blues -- but it's impossible to get worked up about it, either. The man's a superb instrumentalist, certainly on a technical level, with dazzling fingerwork on a cut like "The Sick Boogie," which is all fingers flying around the fretboard, or the impressionistic "Shangri-La," whose blues connection seems tenuous, at best. But there seems to be precious little feel behind the notes. This is the blues as played, not as lived, and that makes for a huge difference. His treatment of "Dust My Broom" hits all the right notes, but it's not Robert Johnson or Elmore James, by any stretch of the imagination. Of course, they couldn't have played ...

| | Tuts Washington Live At Tipitina's '78 CD (1998)
Guitar Blues songs
$13.15 There's not a whole helluva lot of Tuts Washington out there, so any recorded legacy of the most important pre-Professor Longhair generation of New Orleans piano players has its value. He was an acknowledged influence on Fess, and while these performances are alleged to be board tapes, it sure sounds more like someone turned on a cassette recorder in the sound booth. You're right there in the front rows at Tipitina's with constant crowd chatter, the odd drink being slurped, some fairly dramatic ...

| | Tami Kelly Floating Off To Dreamland CD (2008)
Guitar Blues music CDs
$16.39 Several years ago, Tami Kelly's husband, Patrick, began presenting custom written lullabies as gifts to the new babies in and around his life. In early 2007, friends celebrating the birth of twins received a lullaby for each baby. The father, an accomplished musician, pianist and singer, was so pleased and impressed with the songs that he told Patrick, "You should publish these!" That got Patrick thinking, and he began to write. He presented the idea of a lullaby CD to Tami that summer, along with the lyrics and music to the 14 songs presented here. Lullaby Dreams (www.lullabydreams.com) was born.In recent years, the songs-for-children genre has been revitalized by artists who are creating music that is far more interesting than in the past. From the start of this project, Patrick and Tami wanted their CD to add to that revitalization and create music that adults would appreciate as much as children. As Patrick says, "We've tried to combine a rich harmonic structure with interesting yet singable melodies, all wrapped together in a smooth, light jazz style. Our goal was to weave a tapestry of bedtime imagery that will touch all who listen, and create a musical journey for the soul."The "quite divine" voice singing these lullabies is Tami Kelly, often described as "a young Ella Fitzgerald." Tami's voice has a vibrant, exciting sound, and her smooth, lyrical style makes her performances fun and highly entertaining. Tami started performing professionally at age 21. She now performs with several combos throughout Israel, mainly in jazz, but also sings music from the 60s and some contemporary Israeli music. Whether she is singing a Cole Porter standard, a jazz interpretation of a contemporary song - or a Lullaby Dreams lullaby - we know you'll be as thrilled as all who hear her. To learn more about Tami and her music, please visit her web site - www.tamikelly.com-------------Here are just a few comments from listeners:"Hi Tami and Patrick. I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed your lullaby disc. It is very professionally done. The songs are very "catchy," the arrangements are rich, and the whole thing just sounds right. Tami's voice is also great (but there is no "news" here...). I can also testify that the disc is quite effective. It took me 3 days to complete hearing it, simply because on the first two nights I fell asleep while listening. So, it works!" - Ari Erev, Composer and Pianist, from Israel - www.arierev.com"Itay loves your ...
