Opening with the track "Regalis Aperture," an instrumental piece that sounds like it could have been lifted from the Chariots of Fire soundtrack, Kamelot's Karma promises to deliver ambitiously orchestral prog-metal from the very start. A scan of the song titles ("Wings of Despair," "The Light I Shine on You," "Temples of Gold") further suggests Kamelot's wholehearted embrace of the dramatic (expect lots of references to "destiny," "mountains," and "immortals"). Fans of symphonic metal groups like Helloween, Dream Theater, and Yngwie Malmsteen will find few surprises on the quasi-conceptual Karma -- which doesn't add any new wrinkles to the genre -- but they will appreciate the meticulous performances of the band. Tracks like "Forever" and "Karma" are propelled by blinding 16th-note kick drums and post-speed metal guitar rhythms, but are overlaid with enough lush keyboards, string arrangements, and unabashedly emotive vocal turns to impress most prog-metal aficionados. ~ Andy Hinds

Additional personnel includes: Sascha Paeth (guitar); Farouk Asjadi (shakuhachi); Miro (keyboards).

Recorded at Pathway Sound and Gate Studios, Wolfsburg, Germany between December 2000 and March 2001.

Kamelot: Khan (vocals); Thomas Youngblood (acoustic & electric guitars); Glenn Barry (bass); Casey Grillo (drums).

4 stars A really awesome album!
This album is a really good one for someone hearing this band for the first time. It shows the heavy side of them, but has songs thast attract, and also has the fenthusiatic voice of Roy Khan, which makes you want to sing!

5 stars Among my favourite albums ever!
Kamelot's Karma is in my opinion one of the best power metal albums in recent years. Almost every song is a highlight but I particually like the combination of Regalis Apertura and Forever that are at the beginning. Don't You Cry is a truely beautiful song and you can really feel the emotions that Thomas felt when writing it in tribute to his father. The title track Karma is perfect in it's lyrics and instrumentation. The Elizabeth trilogy hint at what was to come with Kamelot's next two albums with the introduction of more progressive elements. Over all a top album. If you are in anyway a fan of Power, Melodic or Progressive Metal you should definitely buy this one!

Metal maestros Kamelot scored a major triumph with 2007's landmark symphonic opus, GHOST OPERA. An evocative blend of bulldozer metal, twisting prog, and grand, opulent strings, GHOST OPERA'S fusion of classical and heavy sounds was about as seamless a finished product as the genre's ever seen. With this reissue, the band has added on a second disc of thrilling live material, showcasing Kamelot's significant chops from a show in old-world Belgrade, Serbia. Live songs like the oppressive "The Human Stain" and ...

Rough Justice
Tytan Rough Justice CD  (2004) (Import) United Kingdom

Karma
CD $15.39  3.7 stars Top 500
Frequently saddled with the cumbersome tag as "the band featuring Angel Witch's former rhythm section," Tytan worked hard to show greater depth as songwriters on their full-length debut Rough Justice. After all, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal which had first ignited the musicians' careers was already losing steam, and, though they didn't realize it yet, their band was about to be undone by a bankrupt record label and escalating personal differences. In fact, the songs they recorded in 1983 wouldn't see the light of day until two years later, making Rough Justice a posthumous document of Tytan's brief existence, and rendering the metal-and-spikes-clad warrior depicted on its sleeve (a N.W.O.B.H.M. throwback in every sense) only the most glaring of misconceptions compared to what fans would find inside. Call them AOR with flashes of metallic guitars, or watered down heavy metal -- whatever suits you -- but token tracks like "Blind Men and Fools," "Money for Love," "Far Cry" and "Forever Gone" countered their still frequently jagged lead and rhythm guitar bite with equal measures of sweetened melodic choruses and discreet synthesizer splashes. Even the album's only pure, unembellished heavy rocker, the excellent "Cold Bitch," sounded a lot more like Coney Hatch than Iron Maiden; while its unchallenged lowlight, the intolerably boring "Rude Awakening," seemed instead to wallow in metal's lamest clichés. Sticking with the weakest links, the female background vocals forced into the intended single "Women of the Frontlines" only added to its unnecessary and unconvincing syrup, but those used a little later, as introductory and closing bookends for the stately "Sadman," were far more interesting, almost progressive in nature. And, equally unusual and revealing of Tytan's desire to break out of those stylistic N.W.O.B.H.M. boundaries, the bluesy "Ballad of Edward Case" comes to a full stop midway through to launch into some spirited English pub singalong, after which the drunk protagonist appears to wreck his car. In summary, Tytan's lone and rather uneven LP was ...

Lots of CD descriptions SAY they are beautiful and relaxing. This one IS. Some people play it all the time as a calming influence to their lives. One restaurant owner used only this CD as background because it didn't distract their customers, but instead made the environment calm and pleasant. But don't be fooled by the word "Background". This is no nebulous, aimless, oversimplistic, or hypnotic experience. It has real and original melodies that stay with you as continuing mood enhancers (with no chemical side effects!) You can chose to intently listen in detail to unexpected changes and evolutions of sound or just sit back and let the music flow over you. It turns on the gentle smile, it takes you away to another place. It's moving. When one feels inspired, one separates from and is lifted out of undesirable states of mind. Hey, it could happen to you with this music. More of your true ...
