| | Carpenters Made In America CD Carpenters Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Featuring the Carpenters' last hit single, the lovely, string-laden "Touch Me When We're Dancing," MADE IN AMERICA was the siblings' final release before Karen Carpenter's tragic death in 1983. It had been four years since Karen and Richard's last album, PASSAGE, a solo album Karen had recorded in 1979 with producer Phil Ramone but unreleased until 1996.
Some fans may be disappointed by the lack of the Carpenters' traditional '60s covers, as MADE IN AMERICA features a larger-than-usual number of songs written by the songwriting team of Richard Carpenter and John Bettis. None of these are less than very good; some--especially "These Old Dreams" and "Because We Are In Love"--are excellent. Although it was unfortunately to be the duo's final work, MADE IN AMERICA does the Carpenters' legacy proud.

Made In America album
$33.75 Karen Carpenter recorded her only solo album in 1979 and 1980 with members of Billy Joel's backing band. It remained unreleased until 1996.
Karen Carpenter's only solo album, recorded in New York in 1979 with producer Phil Ramone but unreleased until 1996, was also the only album she ever recorded with a producer other than her older brother Richard. The difference is immediately obvious. Ramone, whose biggest client was Billy Joel, prefers a looser, more spacious sound than Richard's note-perfect, almost-antiseptic orchestral pop.
Not to take anything away from Karen and Richard's endless string of classic pop singles, but it is refreshing to hear Karen's near-perfect voice, a dusky, melancholy alto ...

THE BEATLES (generally known as "The White Album" because of its cover) was a sprawling two-record set, highlighting the distinct personalities in the group as they matured and moved further away from each other. With the four Beatles playing like session men on each other's songs, the making of the album was fraught with tension. John Lennon's songs included a bitter take ...
| | Glee Cast Glee: The Music, Vol. 2 CD (2009) (Import) Original Soundtrack; United Kingdom
Made In America music CDs
$9.58 The second Glee soundtrack throws a bone to the show's supporting characters, with Jenna Ushkowitz (the faux-stuttering Tina) singing her first solo and Amber Riley (Mercedes) receiving a larger chunk of airtime. Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison continue to steal the show, though; Morrison delivers one of the album's most inventive songs with a mash-up of "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and "Young Girl," while Michele sings the absolute pants off of everything the producers give her. The album sometimes strays away from choral arrangements and focuses on individual actors, but it's hard not to sing along with a song like "Jump," where the cast replaces Eddie Van Halen's keyboard riff with bright choral harmonies. ~ Andrew Leahey
The second Glee soundtrack feels a bit rushed, arriving no less than four weeks after Vol. 1's release and featuring songs from half as many episodes. Returning fans will still find a lot to enjoy here, though, as Jenna Ushkowitz (the faux-stuttering Tina) gets her first solo and supporting characters Amber Riley (Mercedes) and Kevin McHale (Artie) enjoy a healthier chunk of airtime. Nevertheless, Lea Michele and ...

| | Kings Of Leon Only By The Night CD (2008)
Made In America album
$8.99 With their raw, organic sound, Tennessee's Kings of Leon emerged in 2003 as Southern rock for the indie-garage set, sort of a Strokes for the South. While there were hints of a new direction on their third album, BECAUSE OF THE TIMES, its follow-up, ONLY BY THE NIGHT, follows through with a near-reinvention of the Kings' sound. ...
| | Michael Buble Call Me Irresponsible CD (2007)
Made In America CD music
$10.09 Michael Buble ranks among the best of the contemporary crooners working in a classic pop-vocal style, and his 2007 album, CALL ME IRRESPONSIBLE, further refines his suave, smooth style. With its finger-snapping big band arrangements, the album has its share of homage to Frank and Dino, both obvious cornerstones of Buble's music. But this isn't merely a retro exercise; the tunes, the production, and the overall feel are decidedly contemporary.
Stylistically adventurous versions of songs by Eric Clapton, Leonard Cohen, and Willie Nelson keep things lively, while "Everything," a Buble original, is one of the album's highlights. Still, cuts like the lead-off track ("The Best Is Yet to Come") and the old chestnut "I've Got the World on a String" will give listeners looking for some elegant, back-in-the-day pizzazz exactly that.

Her music was born and raised there too, in the tap rooms and taverns, hardware stores and kitchens of a people living and dying, laughing and loving in the crossroads of America. Bridget has eight recordings to her credit, each of which has enjoyed heavy airplay on radio stations nationwide that feature folk/acoustic music. Artists who have contributed to her recordings include such acoustic innovators as John ...
