| | June Christy Tampico CD June Christy Discography of CDs
Tampico is easily recommended to June Christy fans. The singer is featured with the Stan Kenton Orchestra on a variety of radio broadcasts from 1945 plus a four-song V-disc session, part of which had not been previously released. Unfortunately the personnel listing is not given, but the Kenton big band is heard primarily in support of the singer throughout anyway. Christy, who turned 20 on November 20, 1945, occasionally hints at her predecessor, Anita O'Day, but mostly already sounded like herself. Among the highlights are two versions apiece of "Tampico" and "Are You Livin' Old Man" plus "Ride On" and "Just A-Sittin' and A-Rockin'." ~ Scott Yanow
Live Recording
Recorded live in 1945.
Personnel includes: June Christy (vocals); Stan Kenton Orchestra.

Tampico
$38.09 DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities to appeal to the band's most devoted ...

Released to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of the first Doors album, THE VERY BEST OF THE DOORS supercedes all former Doors compilations. At two discs and 34 tracks, this is quite comprehensive for a band whose key lineup released only half a dozen albums. In addition to all the expected hits like "Light My Fire," "Hello I Love You," and "Roadhouse Blues," this compilation delves much deeper into the catalogue with fan favorites such as "Not To Touch the Earth" and "Wishful Sinful," as well as a handful of previously obscure ...
| | Bob Mover Beyond Expectations CD (1993)
Tampico
$13.79 John Hicks was 51 when, in 1993, he recorded Beyond Expectations for the independent Reservoir label, and at that age no one was demanding that the veteran pianist reinvent the jazz wheel. However, it wasn't unreasonable to ask that he show some imagination when it came to choosing material. Some of Hicks' '90s albums placed too much emphasis on overdone warhorses, and that is true of Beyond Expectations. Leading an acoustic piano trio that employs Ray Drummond on bass and Marvin "Smitty" Smith on drums, Hicks doesn't offer a lot of surprises. Most of the songs that he embraces (which range from Horace Silver's "Peace" to "There Is No Greater Love" and "Every Time We Say Goodbye") have been recorded time and time again over the years. But while this CD isn't very adventurous, it is still ...
