| | Otis Redding Live In Europe Vinyl LP Record Otis Redding Discography of CDs
Recorded in March of 1967, this raw-boned performance ably demonstrated Otis Redding's fiery live persona. Solidly backed by the Memphis Horns and Booker T. & The MG's, Redding's phrasing and excitement rivaled fellow Georgia native James Brown. Equally at home with ballads and uptempo material (much of it self-penned), Redding was also a master interpreter. His facility as a song stylist extended to include everything from Smokey Robinson and Sam Cooke to the rock & roll of the Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Three months after this performance, his Monterey Pop appearance propelled Redding to massive crossover success.
Recorded in March 1967. Originally released on Atco (33-286). Includes original release liner notes by Deanie Parker.
Digitally remastered by Bill Inglot & Dan Hersch.
Personnel: Otis Redding (vocals); Steve Cropper (guitar); Andrew Love, Joe Arnold (tenor saxophone); Wayne Jackson (trumpet); Booker T. Jones (organ); Donald "Duck" Dunn (bass); Al Jackson, Jr. (drums).
Q (9/93, p.102) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...[LIVE IN EUROPE] is one of the few albums to give James Brown's LIVE AT THE APOLLO a run for its money..." Live In Europe Review

Live In Europe album
$9.09 After leaving his post with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Freddie Hubbard led one of the most adventurous sessions of his career, the remarkable BREAKING POINT. Also of significance here is Hubbard's depth as a composer, as he also penned four of the five stunning pieces on this disc. Hubbard breaks new ground with his playing as well. His edgy tone, relentless drive, and signature chops come together to present a highly individual sound that supports his newfound musical vision. Powerful though he was with Blakey, this session certainly finds Hubbard BREAKING out on his own trail.
The explosive title track's raucous fanfare eventually ...
| | Horace Silver Serenade To A Soul Sister CD (1968) Remastered
Live In Europe CD music
$9.79 One of the last great Horace Silver albums for Blue Note, Serenade to a Soul Sister is also one of the pianist's most infectiously cheerful, good-humored outings. It was recorded at two separate early-1968 sessions with two mostly different quintets, both featuring trumpeter Charles Tolliver and alternating tenor saxophonists Stanley Turrentine and Bennie Maupin, bassists Bob Cranshaw and John Williams, and drummers Mickey Roker and Billy Cobham. (Williams and Cobham were making some of their first recorded appearances since exiting the military.) Silver's economical, rhythmic piano style had often been described as funky, but the fantastic opener "Psychedelic Sally" makes that connection more explicit and contemporary, featuring a jubilant horn theme and a funky bass riff that both smack of Memphis soul. (In fact, it's kind of a shame he didn't pursue this idea more.) Keeping the album's playful spirit going, "Rain Dance" is a campy American Indian-style theme, and "Jungle Juice" has a mysterious sort of exotic, tribal flavor. "Kindred Spirits" has a different, more ethereal sort of mystery, and "Serenade to a Soul Sister" is a warm, loose-swinging ...
| | Freddie Hubbard Night Of The Cookers: Live At Club La Marchal CDs (1965) Remastered
Live In Europe music CDs
$16.99 Originally released as two separate LPs (and reissued in 2004 as a double CD package) THE NIGHT OF THE COOKERS, VOLUMES 1 & 2 puts trumpeters Freddie Hubbard and Lee Morgan, two of the biggest guns of the hard-bop era, head to head throughout an extended live set. James Spaulding plays alto sax and flute, balancing out the brighter, brassier timbres of Hubbard and Morgan, and a crack rhythm section of pianist Harold Mabern, bassist Larry Ridley, drummer Pete La Roca, and conga player Big Black keeps things simmering.
Each disc contains only two compositions, Clare Fischer's "Pensativa" and Richard Carpenter's "Walkin'" make up Disc One, and two Hubbard compositions, "Jodo" and "Breaking Point" occupy the second. Since each cut clocks in at approximately 20 minutes, there is ample solo time for each musician; the approach here is all about stretching out over solid grooves. Spaulding and Mabern turn in agile improvisations, but the spotlight is on the two trumpeters. Morgan's playing pales a bit besides Hubbard's on this date--understandably, as Hubbard is tirelessly playful and acrobatic. There are chops galore on this classic ...

| | R Kelly Untitled CD (2009)
Live In Europe album
$11.18 After his aborted, internet-leaked 2008 album, 12 PLAY: 4TH QUARTER, R. Kelly busied himself with guest spots for Beyonce, T-Pain, and Kanye West, even offering a free download on iTunes, "I Believe," inspired by the election of president Barack Obama. While such moves insured that Kelly would never stray far from the R&B throne he's occupied for more than a decade, his 2009 reboot of 12 PLAY, UNTITLED, should provide more than enough reason for fans to keep coming back for more. From Auto Tune-laden crowd pleasers like "Outta the Game" and "Crazy Night" to rousing club-oriented numbers like "Echo," Kelly downplays the slower "baby-making" jams this time around for a set of largely up-tempo songs, capped by a sultry collaboration with Keri Hilson ("Number One").

| | Pink Funhouse CD (2008) Explicit
Live In Europe CD music
$8.99 Pink's insistently hooky, attitude-filled pop-rock has kept the singer a fixture on the radio and on singles charts since the early 2000s. The artist's fifth effort, FUNHOUSE, doesn't tamper with the formula: Pink's powerhouse vocals and in-your-face approach, backed by stadium-sized production, are in full effect on all 12 tracks. Even though the album deals primarily with aftermath of her divorce and includes serious moments of self-confrontation like "Sober," fans needn't worry that Pink has lost any of her chutzpah.
If anything, there's an increased sense of confidence and newfound liberation on tracks like the chest-thumping "So What" and the mischievous, bouncing "Bad Influence." In softer moments, like the ballad "I Don't Believe You" and the soulful "One Wrong Foot," Pink channels her personal experience into expressions that carry no less strength or muscle. But FUNHOUSE is a pop album first and foremost, and its catchy choruses, rollicking ...
