Recorded between 1967 & 1971. Includes liner notes by Steve Kolanjian.
Best-known for their soulful, horn-driven hit "More Today Than Yesterday (which in later years has become an oldies radio staple), the Spiral Starecase were an eager young pop group that unfortunately fizzled out after only one album and a few singles. It was the same old story: management hi jinx; quarrels over cash. Luckily, this compendium of the band's work exists. Compiling as it does their entire debut album, as well as the follow-up singles (both A- and B-sides), More Today Than Yesterday is the definitive Spiral Starecase retrospective, surpassing even Taragon's other look back at the band, which features only singles and a few select album cuts. ~ Johnny Loftus

THE NEW MILES DAVIS QUINTET made its first visit to the recording studios on November 16, 1955. By October 26, 1956, when they made their last session for Prestige, Miles had signed with recording giant Columbia, had the most influential band in all of jazz (which would spawn the most charismatic musician of the 1960s), and was well on his way towards international stardom.
Listen to THE MUSINGS OF MILES, an earlier quartet with bassist Oscar Pettiford, then listen to the difference bassist Paul Chambers and tenor saxophonist John Coltrane make. Philly Joe Jones' dancing hi-hat reverie introduces ...
