A small Oklahoma town is stripped of its innocence when one of its boys turns up mute and bloodied by the lakeside. Unable to tell his story, the local sheriff embarks on a quest to uncover the roots of a gruesome crime. Stars Nick Stahl, Hal Holbrook, Martha Plimpton and Kevin Anderson; directed by Tim Blake Nelson. Martha Plimpton gives a strong performance as an Oklahoma diner waitress who weds the born-again prison inmate (Kevin Anderson) with whom she's been corresponding, but she soon finds that his ostensible piety masks a cruel, domineering nature that leads inevitably to horrific violence. This deeply affecting film, while examining the way in which death and grief send shockwaves across a small town, employs a complex narrative which shifts around across the frame of the story, involving the viewer in the process of putting together the pieces of this tragic and compelling puzzle. Hal Holbrook and Nick Stahl also turn in exceptional performances. Funded in part by the Sundance Institute. Eye Of God Reviews: "...Cool camera stuff and exotic editing..."

| | Nothing Sacred / Made For Each Other DVD (2004)
Eye Of God movie DVD
$3.49 This double-feature of comedy and drama classics includes the following:
NOTHING SACRED: In this classic screwball comedy, Carole Lombard plays Hazel Flagg, a small-town girl who pretends to be dying from radium poisoning so she can win a free trip to New York City. Fredric March plays Wally Cook, the big-city newspaper reporter who sets up the plan by breaking the story and then complicates matters when he falls for Hazel. The result is a marvelous satire, directed by William Wellman and featuring terrific performances from the two leads as well as Charles Winninger and Walter Connolly. Carole Lombard offers up an ironic monologue about the beauty of dying in what was to be one of her last films prior to her real-life ending in a plane crash.
MADE FOR EACH OTHER: Jimmy Stewart and Carole Lombard star as newlyweds in this delightful romantic dramedy. Stewart plays Johnny Mason, an amiable New York City lawyer who has put his career in jeopardy by refusing the hand of his employer's daughter. His beloved wife, Jane (comically portrayed by Lombard), is despised by Johnny's mother (Lucile Watson), who takes it upon herself to move in with the young couple. Things go from bad to worse when Jane gives birth to a child the family can ill afford. When the infant becomes sick on New Year's Eve, the pressure falls on Johnny ...
