En Vivo music CDs
$13.29 Singer-songwriter Ricardo Arjona has been recognized as one of the more distinctive voice in the Latin pop scene (he won a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album in 2006, and 2007's QUIEN DIJO AYER was nominated for a Latin Grammy). QUINTO PISO, released in 2008, demonstrates the continued evolution of Arjona's personal voice. While his arrangements sometimes resemble those of mainstream Latin pop releases, Arjona's themes go well beyond the Latin loverman stereotype to engage social issues and deeply felt personal narratives.
Arrangers: Fernando de Santiago; Lee Levin; Ricardo Arjona; Chris McDonald; Tommy Torres.
Personnel: Marco Antonio de Santiago (guitarron); Jorge "La Chiquis" Amaro (bajo sexto); Fernando de Santiago (vihuela); Connie Ellisor, Hugo Colula, Arturo González Viveros, Carolyn Bailey, ...

$14.35 The founder of the celebrated Mexican band Los Bukis, Marco Antonio Solis is a cornerstone of modern Tejano and Norteno music. As evidenced by LA HISTORIA CONTINUA's opening track, the laid-back, romantic "Desde Que te Perdi," and most of the other cuts here, ...

| | Dizzy Gillespie 1946-1948 CD (2000) (Import) France
En Vivo music CDs
$10.29 If you're exploring Dizzy Gillespie's '40s output for the first time, the best starting point would be RCA's comprehensive two-CD set The Complete RCA Victor Recordings 1937-1949, which boasts all of the trumpeter's essential recordings from that period. But this French CD of 1999, despite its flaws, also contains its share of Gillespie gems from the '40s. Early into the disc, one notices a major boo-boo: Tadd Dameron's "Our Delight" is listed as the first track when, in fact, it's the third. And some essential tunes are missing -- most notably, Gillespie's famous 1946 recordings of "A Night in Tunisia" and "Anthropology." But the sound quality is decent by 78-Era standards -- Jazz Archives' digital remastering is nothing to complain about, and the material that Jazz Archives provides is first rate. In fact, "Manteca," "Woody'N You," "Good Bait," "Cubana Be, Cubana Bop," and other big band gems are an essential part of any bop collection. Gillespie proved that big bands could be relevant to bop, and some of these recordings also demonstrated that Afro-Cuban elements and bop could be a powerful combination. In fact, everyone from Cal Tjader and Ray Barretto, to Poncho Sanchez, Pucho, and Mongo Santamaria benefited greatly from the Latin jazz breakthroughs of Gillespie and percussionist ...

| | Afro Celt Sound System Volume 5: Anatomic CD (2005)
En Vivo album
$14.15 The Irish/African/international collective Afro Celt System's fifth platter is a bit more reserved than some of their previous sets, but no less compelling. While in the past they've combined traditional music of Celtic and African sources with contemporary dancefloor mixology, ANATOMIC may be considered their "ambient" or "chill-out" album. Featuring guest singer Dorothee Munyaneza (from the HOTEL RWANDA soundtrack), ANATOMIC fuses cyclical, sighing Irish melodies, pensive West African folk music, dance beats, echoes of Indian music, and more, creating their own abundant-as-a-rainforest, compassionately captivating sound-world.
Audio Mixers: Martin Russell; Simon "Mass" Massey.
Recording information: Inistioghe, Ireland; Redchurch Recording, London, England; Sonic Innovation Studio 2, London, England.
Afro Celt Sound System: Simon Emmerson (guitars); James McNally (whistle, drum, programming); Iarla O Lionáird, Martin Russell.
Personnel: N'Faly ...

En Vivo music CDs
$11.15 This album represents a chamelion of an artist who has sold tens of thousands of CD's. From bluesy jazz to Sinatra standards to saxophone-like instrumentals like Grover Washington Jr & a few catchy originals that you won't get out of your head. The common thread is Marty and his unique soulful way of either his covers or the originals. The drummer on 6 tunes is Fred "Catfish" Alias who has toured w/ AWB and recorded w/ Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates. The musicianship on this whole record is amazing. The piano solos by J. Rowe are incredible on "Fly me to the Moon" and a very cool jazzy even Dark solo on "Play it Cool" is ...
