As the keyboardist for the Sir Douglas Quintet, Augie Meyers was one of the founding fathers of Tex-Mex rock & roll. All the while that he was working with Doug Sahm, he maintained a solo career, but 2002's BLAME IT ON LOVE was the first solo album he released after Sahm's death. Meyers's early albums were in a more solidly Tex-Mex vein, but BLAME IT ON LOVE breaks the musical equation down, splitting most of the tracks between the country and R&B sounds that were Sahm & company's original building blocks.

| | Doors Soft Parade CD (1969) Gold; Remastered
Blame It On Love album
$20.29 Dismissed by the benighted as the Doors' "pop album," SOFT PARADE is one of the band's most adventurous recordings, utilizing strings and horns without resorting to schlocky over-production and moving far beyond their blues roots. Morrison was fully into his shaman phase by 1969, and his obsession with that image is reflected in the proselytizing air of "Tell All the People," and of course "Shaman's Blues." The album's biggest hit "Touch Me," while easily the group's most radio-friendly offering, is a pop classic that ranks among the great '60s AM radio tunes. "Wild Child" is a brief return to the blues-rock of yore, but the title track is a sophisticated, extended piece that moves through several different moods and textures, full of the elliptical, poetic lyrics that were Morrison's trademark.
The weakest studio album recorded with Jim Morrison ...
| | EBN Telecommunication Breakdown CD (1995)
Blame It On Love CD music
$14.65 The CD version of TELECOMMUNICATION BREAKDOWN can be played using either a multimedia equipped computer (for sound and pictures) or an audio CD player. Included is a floppy disc interactive CD booklet.
Samples include "Jungle Boogie" (as performed by Kool & The Gang), "Foxy Lady" (Jimi Hendrix), "Taxi Driver" (Bernard Hernmann) and "Aladdin Sane" (David Bowie).
This is an elaborate treat that snuck past a lot of critics and potential audience when it was released back in 1995. The packaging for the CD came with some serious multimedia perks; certainly ahead of its time. The built-in CD-ROM features allow the listener/viewer the option of going through the whole disc with its own CD player software, occasionally alerting the viewer to videos where applicable. There are three altogether, but always available are some basic television images flashing on the computer screen plus controls to modify them (fast, slow, distorted, etc.). Lyrics are available to scroll down for each track, plus tour and contact information. Also present is a quick showcase of EBN's equipment, such as their impressive video image sampler as well as a demonstration of their absurd and amusing golf-bag rocket launcher. For buyers who didn't have a CD-ROM drive, never fear -- a floppy disc is also included in the sleeve to provide some basic multimedia wall of sound eye candy. But all of this is just visual. As for the music, this is a tremendously ambitious side project for Meat Beat Manifesto's frontman Jack Dangers, who seems like an ideal producer for this album, one that is so deeply rooted in found samples, TV clips, and soundbites. Using existing media as a prime source of material for much of this album, there are hardly any formal musicians in Emergency Broadcast Network, but rather a collective of producers, programmers, and audio/visual operators that create new works by utilizing a musicians' ear, if not a musical instrument. Two tracks feature a slightly more traditional approach: First visiting producer Brian Eno gives a little creepy breathing room for the track "Homicidal Schizophrenic," with guest guitarist Jamie West-Oram, ex-member ...

Blame It On Love music CDs

| | Scheer ...And Finally CD (2000)
Blame It On Love songs
$16.45 And Finally, Scheer's aptly-titled, posthumous follow-up to their 1996 album Infliction, reveals that, despite their problems with 4AD, the group was becoming a stronger and more creative unit, blending Audrey Gallagher's deceptively sweet voice and their wall-of-guitars sound more successfully. Where parts of Infliction sounded like the Cranberries and Bush mixed together just for the heck of it, And Finally's stronger songwriting and clearer production provide the focus and polish necessary to make Scheer's sound less forced. The group's hard pop side is well represented by tracks like "Deadly Serious," "6am," "Suffocate," and "Mercy," all of which sound crisper and more dynamic than Infliction's overly grungy rock did. Likewise, their brooding ballads are ...
