This DVD feature film stars Mekhi Phifer, Wood harris and Cam'ron. Set in the early 1980s, this entry in the African-American urban gangster genre puts character development in the front seat for a change as it rolls through the Harlem streets on its usual rise-and-fall route. Ace (Wood Harris) starts out a laundry delivery guy, but thanks to a chance encounter with a Latin coke dealer (Esai Morales), he quickly works his way to the top of a drug empire. Mitch (Mekhi Phifer) is his more extroverted, colorful pal, the "born hustler" whose bravado hides a tragic family life. For a while the money just keeps rolling in and everyone's happy, but then comes the inevitable turn to tragedy, heralded by the arrival of the brash, trigger-happy Rico (rapper Cam'ron in his screen debut). A sensitive script and moody direction by Charles Stone III allows PAID IN FULL to sidestep a lot of the cliched glamour of similar films. The violence is realistically depicted, and the ultimate emptiness and paranoia of the lifestyle is allowed to manifest slowly through a nice, low-key performance by Harris. Roc-a-Fella mogul Damon Dash produced, based on the true story of Harlem drug lords he remembers from his childhood, one of whom even served as a technical advisor. A Fantastic Film This is truly a wonderful film, with excellent performances by Wood Harris, Mekhi Phifer, and even Cam’ron. Ace, played by Wood Harris, is enticed by the drug world because he sees drug-dealing as a fast way to build a better life for himself and oddly, those of his community. I say ‘oddly’ because he seems to be helping the people in his community, by letting them earn money from selling drugs to other people within his community. This movie gives a realistic look at the lives of three men who deal drugs for different reasons, and the consequences of their lifestyle. Buy this DVD. $10.05 Rapper Memphis Bleek and his Roc-A-Fella crew star in this gritty urban crime drama based on actual events. Determined to make big cash, local Philly thug Beans (Beanie Siegel) forms a gang he dubs the A.B.M. (All 'Bout Money) and declares that all his rivals better "get down or lay down." Bleek, Jay-Z, Omillio Sparks, Freeway, and Damon Dash are some of his friends and enemies along the way. Beans earns plenty of cash, and a nice home in the suburbs for his family, but like all movie gangsters he doesn't know when to quit. The body count rises, his old lady (Sundy Carter) gets kidnapped, and incarceration threatens when a surviving victim decides to rat Beans out to the cops.
First-time director Abdul Malik Abbot smartly eschews any morality, romance or phony glamour in favor of a practical, no-nonsense, sex-and-violence approach. The film's real strength, however, is the naturalistic performances of ...

$13.89 Defcon 1: Lyrical Warfare was T-Rock's third album in five months. As you might be able to imagine, it's not that the MC had such a wealth of top-shelf tracks ready to be unleashed upon the world in rapid-fire succession. Instead, he had one good album, and he chose to split up the material from that one good album onto three separate albums, with plenty of nondescript fluff added to each of the discs to maximize ...

$7.89 Two classic World War II films combine on this 2-Pack.
THEY WERE EXPENDABLE: John Ford's poetic adaptation of William White's book about a PT boat squadron in the South Pacific during World War II may be the best feature film on the war in that theater and is considered by some scholars, including British director Lindsay Anderson, as Ford's greatest work. Just before the outbreak of the war, Lt. John Brickley (Robert Montgomery) is assigned to take his Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron to Manila Bay to defend against a possible Japanese attack in the Philippines. Once there, he finds that the top brass, amused by the idea that the small crafts can be of use in combat, relegates the PT boat to messenger duty. Angered by that reaction, Brickley and his crew must wait for the war to begin to show what they can do. When it does, they shoot down three Japanese planes during an attack on their base, but when the base is closed Brick's squadron is reassigned to Bataan, where they once again are ordered to run messages, and Brickley's fiery executive officer, Lt. Rusty Ryan (John Wayne), fed up with such meaningless duty, asks to be transferred to a destroyer. The embodiment of Milton's tag that "they also serve who stand and wait," Ford's elegiac film pays tribute to all who donned a uniform during the war, whatever their role. Montgomery, who shared in the film's direction, gives the best noncomic performance of his career as the evenhanded CO. But in a visually arresting film that could provide a formidable emotional impact even without the use of sound, it's the eloquent compositions of director of photography Joseph H. August that resonate most powerfully.
