| | Supertones Are Go! CD Supertones Discography of CDs
The Supertones, a New York City-based instrumental quartet, have been playing around NYC for the past ten years at places like The Greatest Bar on Earth, Luna Lounge, Wetlands, The Rodeo Bar, Manitoba's and Don Hill's, and recently added a semi-annual tour of Puerto Rico to their performance schedule. The Supertones compositions are also featured in reknowned surf documentarist, Bud Browne's recent movies including Surfing in the 50s, Cavalcade of Surf and Locked In. So belly up to the whammy bar and enjoy The Supertones!"We've sung the praises of The Supertones before, and now here's an ideal chance for any of you yet to be convinced to sample their earlier albums The Wet Side and Ride The Wild Twang, The Supertones Are Go! is a 32 track compilation of remarkable quality. It's not just the playing, or indeed the strong material, but the sympathetically appropriate range of sounds they use on each track. These guys clearly care about capturing the sounds of the '60s, and they do it really well. If you wish The Ventures had stuck to covers or if The Challengers had been a touch more adventurous, then you're going to love this. On the other hand, if you fear that an album full of familiar titles will lack interest then think again. The arrangements are not exact copies and the feel generated by the band is pure joy, an experience I'd recommend to all RI fans. This is a classy album you will play right through over and over again."Alan Taylor, Pipeline #51, Surrey, UK, Spring 2001

$13.15 "Horror"-core rappers can generally be counted on to pair their ultra-violent raps with dark, claustrophobic productions. Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind, trackmaster for the duo Jedi Mind Tricks, has broader aims though, and he uses the group's third LP to move their sound ...
| | Aerosmith Honkin' On Bobo CD (2004) Bonus Track; Japan
Supertones Are Go! CD music
$38.69 The Japanese import edition includes a bonus track ("Jaded").
With HONKIN' ON BOBO, Aerosmith takes a break from radio-ready fare to record an album that pays tribute to the blues influences that have always been close at hand for the group. Further enhancing the sound of this project is the presence of storied pianist Johnnie Johnson (on two tracks) and Jack Douglas, the producer for many of Aerosmith's classic 1970s albums.
The result is the typical 'Smith sass and shimmy, with a contemporary sensibility applied to nuggets plucked from the songbooks of Willie Dixon (the sleazy strut "I'm Ready"), Sonny Boy Williamson (a rollicking "Eyesight to the Blind"), and Little Walter (the Howlin' Wolf-flavored "Temperature"). Throughout the record, Joe Perry and fellow fret-bender Brad Whitford play with a dirty, fuzz-guitar tone, perfectly complemented by Steven Tyler's equally rough-and-rowdy forays on the harmonica. As a result, these Boston natives do a stellar job with fiery renditions of Big Joe Williams's "Baby, Please Don't Go" and Mississippi Fred McDowell's "You Gotta Move," proving that they can still rock hard while playing the blues.
Aerosmith prove that a band can be inspired by the blues and play the blues without ever feeling like a blues band. Then again, the nature of the blues is that every musician who plays it stamps his or her own identity on a set of familiar chord changes and songs. While it might not feel like the blues, Aerosmith do indeed stamp their identity on each track on their long-promised blues album, the atrociously named Honkin' on Bobo. Other rockers who have cut full-length blues albums have always played the music with a kind of scholarly reverence, taking care to pay tribute to their influences. Not Aerosmith. They turn up the amps and cut loose, playing slick and sleazy blooze-rock that feels indebted to second-generation blues-rock instead of blues forefathers. But that's the nature of the band. Surely, they loved Chess and country blues as much as they loved the Stones, but they are so thoroughly the children of Mick and Keith, they can't help but sound like a rock & roll ...
