| | J D Walter Clear Day CD (2001)
Flesh Eating Twist music CDs
$12.89 In the 21st century, male jazz vocalists are a minority -- for every male jazz singer who comes along, there are countless female jazz singers. So when a young male jazz vocalist starts recording, you want to monitor his development closely. Influenced by Mark Murphy and Bob Dorough (among others), J.D. Walter was one of the young jazz-singing males who showed some promise in the late '90s and early 2000s. Clear Day, recorded in 2000, is an engaging post-bop date that Walter co-leads with soprano and tenor saxophonist/flutist Dave Liebman. Many straight-ahead jazz singers would not have the guts to work with Liebman, an adventurous post-bop/avant-garde soloist and composer who isn't afraid to be left of center. But Walter shows himself to be up for the challenge when he provides lyrics for two Liebman pieces ("Beyond the Line" and "Translucence") and scats ...
| | Four Star Mary Thrown To The Wolves CD (1999)
Flesh Eating Twist songs
$14.79 Four Star Mary is an independent rock band based in California comprised of members with origins from around the U.S. Each of the founding members and musicians who have worked with the band bring a healthy dose of divergent musical backgrounds, and you start to see why journalist have splashed praises in magazines such as LA Weekly, Q Magazine, Classic Rock, Metal Hammer, to name a few, saying such things as "more sense and sensitivity (plus a dose of mighty melodic intuition) than they have any right to" and songs "sport epic choruses and churning, scything guitar lines... enough to make record executives across America weep with regret. "Despite the odds, FSM was formed, and the resulting synergy of minds and music led to a group that is not only prolific, but (unlike most of its brethren) actually writes as a group. Four Star Mary is a collaborative musical effort. Everyone in FSM is a good songwriter in his own right. And almost more importantly, everyone listens to each other. The only aspect of their songs that doesn't represent a combined effort by all is the lyrics, that is Tad Looney's ...

| | Erik Viel Off The Beaten Path CD (2007)
Flesh Eating Twist songs
$10.15 "With music firmly entrenched in the mid-70s and a guitar inhabiting ghosts of Toy Caldwell, Dickie Betts and Pete Carr, Viel succeeds where so many others have failed." - Frank GutchFolk and Acoustic Music Exchange"A big strapper from Georgia, Erik Viel gives us a very subtle album, with bucolic aspects, between country blues, folk and for our pleasure southern rock...and what southern rock my friends....recommended strongly." - Jacques DersignyRoad to JacksonvilleTranslation from French "Off The Beaten Path" is a very versatile CD. Partly because of the many guest vocalists and also because of the variety of styles, from folk, to blues to country oriented songs, but always with that Southern stamp, sometimes it can go into real Allman Brothers / Marshall Tucker Band style. Southern Rock, as in the beautiful "I'll be Loving You", or the jazzy ode to the North Country in "Bard of Ontario", an extremely attractive instrumental. The blues shuffle "Wanderin Blues" features guest vocalist Andrew Black as a singer, which proves that blues is his thing. On organ, Chris Corso shines, and that together make it one of my favorite songs.." - RootsTime Belgium Translation from Dutch "I'll be Loving You" has a groove that would make any Deadhead dance. This album includes a great rendition of John Prine's "Please Don't Bury Me" that definitely got my toes tapping....Viel incorporates a lot of influences in these thirteen songs, from folk to blues and country. These songs are very rich and well-constructed. The vocals are never strained and the instrumentals are all very easy to listen to. This is a quality CD by a top-notch singer-songwriter. I expect a lot of good things from Erik Viel.-Gary SchwindAntiMusic. Com "Erik Viel is a talented writer and arranger of both instrumental and vocal Southern-style Americana, and he has a traditionalist's taste in covers, too. Off the Beaten Path is a fulfilling trip."-Chip WithrowThe Muse's Muse Music Reviews "Off the Beaten Path explores special, personal havens. Erik's ability to share ...
