Apart from the awkward title song, performed by Tina Turner and written by U2's Bono and the Edge, the soundtrack to GoldenEye, the first James Bond movie starring Pierce Brosnan is an enjoyable collection. Most of the disc is devoted to Eric Serra's score, which builds on John Barry's classic Bond theme, developing into a bold, exciting piece of music. "GoldenEye" may be one of the weakest Bond themes, but that doesn't prevent the rest of the records from being as strong as the previous 007 soundtracks. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Goldeneye Soundtrack Music Goldeneye Soundtrack Songs Goldeneye Soundtrack Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Very Nice! Eric Serra produced a brilliant soundtrack that set the tone for a new kind of Bond for the next generation of Bond fans, a generation whose musical taste leans more toward the synthetic design in one way or another. GoldenEye had a chilling darkness to it that no other Bond film before it had, and it was largely thanks to the modified sound the score posessed. A Worthwhile Purchase In all honesty, the GOLDENEYE soundtrack is well-done. Of course, this is my own opinion and many thoughts and feelings on Eric Serra's Bond work are very controversial; numerous hard-core 007 fans dispise the heavy synthesized and artificial sounds thrown in. On the other side, however, most of the younger audiences enjoy the techno/synthesized style of Serra's creative score; I for one think it's interesting to listen to, and it delivers a different way of experiencing the movie and the Bond themes.
Although, I must admit this soundtrack does stray rather far from the more original and classical John Berry musical score. Not too often does the James Bond theme appear in the score, and when it does (a maximum of three, possibly four times) it is difficult to pick out and is always a heavily 'distorted'--for lack of a better term--version due to the synthesized approach.
Despite the pros, cons and everything in between, however, this soundtrack remains a dispute. Some love Serra's unique and creative approach at this score while at the same time another will simply loathe the extreme contrast of this Bond adventure. It truly remains up to you to decide if this score did its job and added to the film, or was just a flat-out bomb and did nothing to further GOLDENEYE. Either way, your opinion will most likely differ from that of "the next girl".
