(7 Customer Reviews)
Soul Embraced has frequently been described as a death metal band, and lead vocalist Chad Moore often favors the sort of demonic-sounding, larynx-ripping vocal style that death metal, black metal, and grindcore are known for. But Immune, the band's third album, underscores the fact that Soul Embraced aren't your average death metal/black metal combo -- and that it would be a mistake to lump them in with bands like In Aeternum, Dark Angel, Impaled, and Triumphator. Immune has as much to do with alternative metal as it does with death metal -- not that the two are mutually exclusive by any means -- and in terms of influences, Rocky Gray's guitar playing is all over the metal map. Gray gets a lot of inspiration from death metal/black metal, but he also plays a lot of chug-chug riffs that would not be out of place on a Korn, Mushroomhead, Sevendust, or Nothingface album. That isn't to say that all of those alterna-metal bands have influenced Soul Embraced -- some probably have, some probably haven't -- but the parallels are certainly there in terms of guitar playing. For all its heaviness and forcefulness, Immune is fairly musical. Yes, this CD offers a lot of extremist vocals, but the songs also have a sense of melody. Immune is intricate as well as brutal, and while that might sound like a contradiction, it really isn't. Historically, a variety of headbangers -- everyone from Judas Priest to Ministry to Nothingface -- have demonstrated that being blistering doesn't rule out being musical, and Soul Embraced brings that type of mentality to Immune. Whether you categorize Immune as death metal or alternative metal -- arguably, it's both of those things -- this CD is an exciting demonstration of the fact that Soul Embraced does not govern by brute force alone. ~ Alex Henderson

Soul Embraced Immune Songs Immune Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Good, but earlier was better I'm surprised that Soul Embraced was a strick Old School Death Metal band, and now they are more metal core. I must say that this album held my interest for months, but it just got too repetitive. For the Incomplete is still the best work they have done, but good luck finding that. the best CD I own I have never heard a better set of tracks put together, hands down. Which leaves me asking- when does the next one come out? Submitted by MFEM (Springfield, Il) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
MUST HAVE CD Awesome CD. All the songs on here are unique, sound good, and no filler. You can tell this band spends some crafting their music and doesn't "pump out" CDs just to make money. Must have CD if you like metal-core Submitted by Doug (Westfield Ma) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Living Sacrifice Hammering Process CD (2000)
Immune
$13.49 The dissonant, trebly guitar noodling combined with detuned sub-riffing known as nu-metal sneaks into the always-evolving aggro of Living Sacrifice on the group's sixth release, The Hammering Process. Though perhaps considered a suspicious shift by their underground metal fans, this subtle transformation works for a unit used to combining the best elements of metal's many forms into new and original concoctions. In a dramatic overhaul of their lineup, founding members Bruce Fitzhugh (vocals, guitar) and Lance Garvin ...
| | Dream Theater Scenes From A Memory CD (1999)
Immune
$11.35 "Metropolis Part I," a track featured on Dream Theater's breakthrough, IMAGES AND WORDS, left many progressive rock enthusiasts with what seemed like another unfinished chapter in a story never to be completed. Seven years and five albums later, Dream Theater returned to its majestic beginnings with METROPOLIS PART II--SCENES FROM A MEMORY. Keyboard virtuoso Jordan Rudess, who was a logical replacement for Derek Sherinian, revitalized the band's sound. Rudess's collaboration with guitarist John Petrucci and drummer Mike Portnoy stole the attention of Dream Theater fans in the instrumental project, LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT.
METROPOLIS PART II is an epic ...

$17.19 On this, Dream Theater's seventh studio effort, the heavier elements of the band's music come to the forefront. Although the masterful balance of rhythmic interplay, jazzy arrangement, and catchy melodies is ever-present on this two-disc offering, the strong, crunchy guitar sound and powerhouse percussion are pushed more into prominence, helped along by the crystal clear production of drummer Mike Portnoy and guitarist John Petrucci. The first disc is comprised ...

| | Living Sacrifice Conceived In Fire CD (2002)
Immune
$13.49 Of all the metalcore bands that have come and gone over the span of the genre's history, Living Sacrifice has remained a band who never showed a sign of weakness. This is a band who, time and time again, release superior metal albums, always providing above-average albums over their decade as a band. Many proclaimed 2000's The Hammering Process as the group's ultimate release, and, in fact, one of the genre's best offerings that year. Those who doubted Living Sacrifice had the ability to deliver an album of that magnitude ever again, much less on the heels of The Hammering Process' surprising cult success, need only listen to Conceived in Fire. Once again, Living Sacrifice have outdone themselves, serving up some of the meatiest metalcore of 2002 with confidence and style. The 13 tracks that comprise Conceived in Fire feel less like individual achievements and more like one continuous proclamation of all which is brutal. Thundering drum dominance courtesy ...
