Another Good Dance Movie Ay,Ay,Ay! Hot Latin dancing that's sure to make you want to go out and sign up for some Salsa lessons! The plot is predictable but not boring. Nice moves by R.Rosa! Submitted by a reviewer (St. Thomas, VI) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Dancing still hot but ...... The first time I saw this movie I was young and Robby Rosa's yummy body overwhelmed his bad acting. The body is still hot but I guess my hormone level has dropped because I sure noticed the acting this time. The plot is a bit predictable and the acting is stiff BUT the dancing, music and the yummy muscles still pull it off. The associated memories that go with the first time I saw the movie and all the fun I had while listening to the soundtrack help a lot. It is still a fun movie, still a great soundtrack, still has a nice view of a hot guy. Also this is the original "former Menudo member" to make a splash on the American pop culture so poo-poo to Ricky Martin! Submitted by a reviewer (Panama City, FL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Salsa review
$6.55 Rafael Infante (Chayanne), a Cuban native who never met his real father, immigrates to America. Taking up residence in Houston, he begins searching for his illegitimate father and takes up employment as a superintendent at the world renowned Excelsior Dance Studio run by John Burnett (Kris Kristofferson). While working as a lowly handyman, Rafael meets Ruby (Vanessa Williams), a striking dancer. Together they enter into the Las Vegas World Open Dance competition and embark in a heated romance.
DANCE WITH ME is a warm heartfelt film. It exhibits Randa Haines' knack for suspenseful, romantic storytelling (she worked as a director on HILL STREET BLUES in the early 1980s). Kris Kristofferson departs from his standard role of grit-iron tough guy to play the effeminate dance instructor. Chayanne is striking and dapper. He demonstrates that dancing is both a sexy art form and a mode of expression for confident and empowered men.
DVD. Feature film. Stars Vanessa L. Williams, Chayanne, & Kris Kristofferson. Rated PG. 125 min.

| | Mi Vida Loca (My Crazy Life) DVD (1994) Pan & Scan
Salsa film
$6.35 MI VIDA LOCA is a compelling look at a microcosm of East L.A.'s Echo Park. Writer and director Allison Anders (GAS FOOD LODGING) lived in the neighborhood for many years with her daughter, inspiring her to make this film about life in a Latina girl gang. The film is sympathetic to these young women, presenting their stories honestly and with a visual flair that the subjects themselves would probably appreciate. The stories are told as a series of vignettes with different narrators, each with his or her perspective on the events portrayed. This approach allows the characters the opportunity to explain their actions, giving the audience a better understanding of behavior they might otherwise easily condemn. The key players are Mousie (Seidy Lopez) and Sad Girl (Angel Aviles), best friends who let local drug dealer Ernesto (Jacob Vargas) come between them. The film is a wonderfully realized slice-of-life: sometimes tragic, sometimes funny, and, despite its seemingly incongruously elegeiac tone, with a strong ring of truth.
Echo Park, L.A. is the setting for a gang movie that beats the competition every way it knows how. Sad Girl and Mousie have fallen out over a guy, but when he's murdered by a rival gang-leader, it's time for the girls to take control! Angel Aviles, Jacob Vargas, Jesse Borrego, and Seidy Lopez star.
