20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Movie Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews A Movie Classic When you mix Disney and Vernes, and leave out sex, gore, and special effects--you wind up with a great movie. I think this is an excellent example of 50's movie making at its peak. Note, however, there are too,too many previews before the feature presentation. Extremely well restored movie This movie was a childhood favorite of mine, and now for the first time viewing all the scenes that had been deleted in the copy I taped off television long ago, Plus watching it in near cinema quality, I was positively elated. I would reccoment this DVD to anyone who has even a passing interest in the movie. The only complaint I had was the Overdone DVD menu system on the second disk that made it difficult to navigate to exactly what you want if you don't enjoy stareing at irrelivant disney CGI. That aside the movie was excellent, and it was enlightening to see the behind the scenes clips as well. Submitted by thefakenet (Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
just as I remembered it - perfect for the 7 year old It was great to let my boy see one of the best sci fi movies from my day. I have trouble finding science fiction movies he can see that aren't too intense with violence and action. Even cartoons these days seem intent on bringing up hair raising scenarios every 3 minutes. And though I personally liked Finding Nemo, I really wish it were paced more like Toy Story and this movie. Submitted by brad (wauwatosa, wi) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea review
$9.79 This fantasy adventure is based on the 1870 novel by Jules Verne. A small, motley group of soldiers and civilians flee the 1865 siege of Richmond via a hot air balloon, and end up on an isolated island crawling with over-sized crabs, birds, and bees. Even more astonishing, they discover three other humans inhabiting the island: two shipwrecked women and the illustrious, long-lost Captain Nemo. Ray Harryhausen's special effects, which include a battle with a giant crab and abduction by an enormous bird, still have the power to thrill and amaze.
The fantastic ...

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea DVD
$9.69 Beginning with a documentary style that immediately hooks the viewer, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, based on the Harry Bates short story "Farewell to the Master," becomes as much a human interest story as it does a sci-fi B-movie classic. The film soberly depicts the arrival of an alien dignitary, Klaatu (Michael Rennie), who has come to earth with his deadly robot, Gort (Lock Martin), to deliver the message that earthlings must stop warring among themselves--or else. After being shot at by ignorant, panicky military guards, Klaatu is brought to a Washington, D.C., hospital, where he begs a sympathetic but frank Major White (Robert Osterloh) to gather all the world's leaders so he can tell them more specifically what he has come 250 million miles to warn them about. Losing patience, Klaatu slips into the human world, adapting a false identity and living at a boarding house where he meets a smart woman ...

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea review
$21.49 Acclaimed B-movie director Edgar G. Ulmer filmed this selection of memorable musical performances, loosely connected by the story of Nora, an Irish scrubwoman (Marsha Hunt) whose passion for classical music causes her to clash with her jazz-loving pianist son (William Prince). The rift caused by their musical differences is eventually healed amid the music of the hall, where Nora works. Arthur Rubinstein, Bruno Walter, and Leopold Stowkowski conduct such accomplished classical performers as vocalists Lily Pons, Ezio Pinza, and Rise Stevens; cellist Gregor Piatgorsky, and violin virtuoso Jascha Heifetz. Vaughn Monroe's orchestra and jazz trumpeter Harry James also show ...
