(1 Customer Review)
Eighteen of McLollie's 1953-55 uptempo sides are collected on this CD. Like many collections of early-to-mid-'50s R&B on the Modern label, there's some sameness to the material and arrangements that limits its appeal for non-specialists. Yet it's a little more enjoyable than many such single-artist collections, though, due to the nonchalant humor of much of the material and McLollie's vocals, and to the lingering big band-jump blues feel. At times some of these later sides got close to rock'n'roll, particularly "Roll Hot Rod Roll," which starts off with a "one for the money" chorus that resembles, just a little, the one that Carl Perkins would use to kick off "Blue Suede Shoes" a bit later. "All That Oil in Texas" is also a highlight for those who like their R&B-swing droll and witty ("all that oil in Texas, and not one drop is mine"). Completists might be a little miffed that this actually is not the complete output of McLollie for the Modern label. Because it was decided to focus the anthology on his uptempo work, it doesn't have his doo-wop recordings for the label. In addition, it uses previously unissued alternate takes of "Dig That Crazy Santa Claus" and "Hey Lolly Lolly," and an undubbed version of "Wiggle Toe," though the versions that appeared on Modern singles are available on other reissues. This CD also includes previously unissued instrumental versions of "Hot Banana" and "Mama Don't Like It," as well as a previously unissued alternate take of "Roll Hot Rod Roll." ~ Richie Unterberger
Ace introduces it's mid-price '10-inch CD' series with a much-requested retrospective of the up-tempo recordings of Oscar McLollie & his Honey Jumpers. This package conveniently ignores all his ballads & concentrates exclusively on his genial jivers & out & out rockers in 45 minutes of dance floor delight. Besides the master takes of Oscar's best-know sides there are previously unheard instrumental workouts & scintillating alternate takes on his most in-demand vocal cuts, 'Dig That Crazy Santa Claus' & 'Roll Hot Rod Roll'. 18 remastered tracks plus 8-page booklet with photos & notes. Ace Records. 2003.

Hey! Lollie Lollie songs
$18.05 Growing up among Afro-Americans in Berkeley, CA, Greek-American Johnny Otis (born John Veliotes) always identified strongly with people of color. Before he had attained the age of 20 he was gigging with black jazz bands throughout the Southwest, and eventually organized an ensemble deliberately patterned after Count Basie's orchestra. This ...

Hey! Lollie Lollie CD music
$16.99 Although King was one of the most important independent record labels of the 1940s-1960s, they were far more adept at R&B, blues, soul, and (prior to rock 'n' roll) country, than they were at straightforward rock 'n' roll. Like so many indies steeped in the roots of R&B and hillbilly, though, they tried their hand at rockabilly and all-out rock 'n' roll, at times connecting with the early or fading careers of big names. This compilation has a couple dozen sides ...

Hey! Lollie Lollie songs
$18.79 This CD contains B.B. King's first ABC-Paramount studio efforts -- Mr. Blues (1962) and Confessin' the Blues (1965), respectively. While there are inevitable similarities between the projects, offering them back-to-back allows listeners an acute sense of King's rapid maturation and development during what was by all accounts the nexus of the guitarist/vocalist's ...

Hey! Lollie Lollie MP3 Album
$11.65 The CD version of HEY JUDESTER also contains the FIZZJOB LP. The cassette version contains only the HEY JUDESTER LP.
After a comparatively tepid debut, the Didjits amped up their guitar roar and stomped down hard on the accelerator for this second long-player, the first in a trio of furious punk rock & roll albums that celebrate brash arrogance, sarcasm, and dedicated hedonism. Hey Judester opens with the one-two punch of "Max Wedge" and "Stingray," a pair of breakneck riff machines that blaze by like drug-fueled drag racers, built on irresistible fist-pumping choruses and cement-solid ...
| | Keali'I Reichel Kawaipunahele CD (1994)
Hey! Lollie Lollie music CDs
$16.45 After being discovered at a karaoke competition in the mid-90s, Keali'i Reichel rose quickly to the highest pinnacles of Hawaiian superstardom. His first album, Kawaipunahele, is already a Hawaiian classic. Locals from Honolulu to Kaunakakai own a copy of the album, radio stations play the songs incessantly, and any tourist who sets foot in a music store is likely to walk out with the CD. Reichel goes for the tried-and-true formula: mellow songs, tropical island stylings and sweet, piping Hawaiian vocal tones. A lot of these songs are reminiscent of former Top 40 hits from the mainland, but only a few of them are actually covers. A couple of notable cover tunes are "In My Life," a Beatles tune which has had a Hawaiian verse added, and "If We Hold On Together," which is performed as a duet with Lorna Lim. Most of the songs have Hawaiian lyrics that are completely unintelligible, but it really doesn't matter. They all talk about the same things: romance, friendship, ...
