Right from the first note struck by singer/guitarist Stacy Jones's band American Hi-Fi, the ex-Veruca Salt/Letters to Cleo drummer is up front about his love of straight-forward rock & roll; the kind that doesn't fit under any kind of pop-punk, emo, or rap-rock umbrella. THE ART OF LOSING finds Jones successfully indulging his tastes thanks to a snappy mix of big guitars and inescapable hooks. If you're still unsure as to what makes his heart race a little faster, it all becomes clear when Jones implores a former paramour to give back his Pixies, Cheap Trick, AC/DC, and My Bloody Valentine records throughout "The Breakup Song."

Although this sophomore effort leans towards a heavier sound, American Hi-Fi still manages to sneak in other recognizable influences. Among the most recognizable are the Burundi drumming intro of the title cut that falls somewhere between Adam Ant and Bow Wow Wow, and the soaring harmonies and guitar that should make "This Is the Sound" the envy of any self-respecting Brit-pop band. Fans of garage rock ("Built For Speed") and Sonic Youth ("Teenage Alien Nation") will also find THE ART OF LOSING to be a win-win situation.

2 stars What's The Big Hype?
I don't understand what the big deal is about this band. I like their first self-titled cd but their second cd is horrible. I'm really considering returning this for my money back. The only songs I like on this cd are the first 4 tracks. But that's not enough to save an album. So in conclusion the first cd is better than their second cd.

5 stars "Art of Losing" A WINNER
If you loved American Hi-Fi's self-titled debut album then you'll have to own "The Art of Losing". It's catchy vocals and superb guitar riffs will keep you playing the CD on "loop" mode. There's a song for everyone on this CD. For those on the rebound there's "The Breakup Song"; for those in need of a loud straight ahead rock song there's "Rise"; and who doesn't get the urge to jump and down like a complete nut when "Nothing Left to Lose" comes on? Anyone who's a fan of rock NEEDS "The Art of Losing" as part of their collection - Hi-Fi is what it's all about!

5 stars After a long wait I am satisfied with AMerican HI Fi
I absolutely loved the first album and it seems like it took forever for "The Art of Losing" to come out but it was worth the wait. AMerican Hi Fi appeals to all different kinds of people because they have the ability to play all different kinds of music. I highly recommend this cd,plus its cheap.

Bearing the brunt of being Elvis Presley's only child, Lisa Marie Presley wisely chose to sit back and experience life before emerging with her full-length debut album TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN. The results are surprisingly good, thanks to Presley's decision to sidestep becoming some prefabricated pop mannequin and instead take the creative reigns by penning all the lyrics, save the lament "The Road Between." Most of the record is steeped in dark imagery that goes well with her smoky phrasing and finds her serving up autobiographical tidbits like "Someone turned the lights out there in Memphis/That's ...

Everything's Watched, Everyone's Watching
Heavy Heavy Low Low Everything's Watched, Everyone's Watching CD  (2006)

Art Of Losing CD music
CD $12.39  5 stars Audio Samples
Give the members of San Jose's Heavy Heavy Low Low a little credit for at least admitting that they "have no musical training, [but] just try to make [their] songs as weird as possible," because were it not for this helpful information, some critics might actually be fooled into labeling their material with adjectives like "daring" or "visionary," instead of the more appropriate "skittish," "chaotic," and, most fitting of all, "unimpressive." For, you see, boys and girls, compositional anarchy in and of itself does not automatically great art make (not even Dadaist art -- check the dictionary), and awarding this band's debut album, Everything's Watched, Everyone's Watching, instantaneous merit simply for jumbling together elements of hardcore, death metal, indie rock, jazz, and anything else they could think of, would frankly be giving credit where it's not due. Curious as they are for their sheer irrationality of structure and meaning, the 11 examples (why even bother calling them songs?) of stream-of-conscience freaking-out here won't impress listeners with any real knowledge of music's avant-garde, nor will they likely entertain most anyone ...
