Straddling the line between hardcore punk and speed metal, the pioneering U.K. outfit Discharge's politically-charged 1982 album HEAR NOTHING, SEE NOTHING, SAY NOTHING features "The Final Blood Bath" and "Protest and Survive."
A punk rock landmark if ever there was one, Discharge's Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing is one of the most bleak, angry albums to ever grace the underground. The album is important on all sorts of levels, from what it did to the British hardcore scene to the long-lasting effect it had on heavy metal. And the worst part is that time has slowly erased the album from the minds of punk rockers, although the heavy metal tendencies of the band had always made them outcasts in their own scene. But this is the real thing, filled with bitter tirades against the government and predicting all-out nuclear destruction with chilling detail. The unrelenting pound of the music would create a huge movement in the hardcore world, starting first in their own country where bands like the Exploited would bring the metal sound into their music. Within a few years, bands like D.R.I., Agnostic Front, Stormtroopers of Death, and Suicidal Tendencies would make similar metal-flavored punk in the States. On the other side of the spectrum, the brutal chugging of the guitars would be a huge influence on the developing thrash metal scene. Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer were its earliest champions, while later bands like Helmet and Pantera would also credit the band with inspiration. Time has hardly dulled the effect of the music; this still sounds as relevant as it did in 1982 if only because the song topics are fairly timeless. Tracks like "Protest and Survive," "Hell on Earth," and "Free Speech for the Dumb" are not only incredibly catchy and simple, but pack their maximum impact because of this simplicity. The terrifying screams of "Cries of Help" may be one of the most haunting moments on any hardcore album, while "The End" is an excellent ending track that sums up the message of the album perfectly. The re-release from the mid-'90s appended several more excellent tracks, including the savage "Two Monstrous Nuclear Stockpiles" and "The More I See," a song that possibly has the catchiest riff they have ever written. Their music before and after this point is quite unpredictable when it comes to quality, but this moment in their career was a very vital one that left an enormous imprint on music, even if most people do not realize it. [Released in 1982, Hear Nothing was reissued by Castle in 2003, and again in 2007 by Captain Oi!] ~ Bradley Torreano

Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing CD music
$16.45 From the live Eric Johnson-like feel of When I Survey, to the sensual immersion of Delicate Heat, each instrumental song covers a different aspect of Christian experience with emotional transparency. The unique sound of his rare Daion electric (featured on the cover) really shines on this one. The premiere at YMCA of the Rockies and his recent performance at the Centrum in Houston received excellent reviews. Also available ~ The Good Life and World of Colors.BIOThereâs a reason why Richard Geppingerâs 3 CDs are on his own label. He likes to do things his own way. Music is far too powerful a language to be confined or defined by formula and genre. All three of his releases are instrumental and reflect that philosophy. âI write whatever God inspires me to write, and I never want anything to restrict that expressionâ. Richard uses many instruments to build creative soundscapes. He began teaching himself how to play the guitar at the age of 11 â left-handed and upside down. When his mother told him he had better start over (heâs right-handed) he complained that he âalready knew 3 chords!â He did change however and started on a road that opened up a whole new world of pleasure. He also began to explore the piano a year later and wrote his first song âSecret Gardenâ (World of Colors). To help him remember which keys to play, he dripped wax on the right ones and found to his horror that hot wax permanently stains ivory. When he could see the light of day again, he began playing in bands and at the age of 15, played his first concert at the Heart of Texas Fair in Waco. Halfway through the show, they launched into the live version of Led Zeppelinâs âDazed and Confusedâ including the 10 minute bow solo, where Jimmy Page is whacking his Les Paul with a violin bow and having it echo back and basically scaring everyone â at least in Waco. After several minutes of torturing his guitar (as someone was heard to say) they shut off power to the stage and peace resumed once again for the sheltered inhabitants.Richard continued to play and write, and soon began playing synthesizer. He bought a Memorymoog in 1983 and did session work in a local studio. Later that year he appeared in a regional television show. In 1986, he moved to Maine and then to Estes Park in 1988 where he began designing and building furniture. Music was laid aside for 5 years until he was invited to play in a variety show at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. He finished writing and orchestrating a new song âSnowfall in Viennaâ(The Good Life) as well as learning âCliffs of Doverâ by Eric Johnson. After receiving a standing ovation from 800 people, he realized what was missing in his life and booked himself in the Summerfest Concert Series, which meant that he had to write an hour worth of original music in about three months. He continued to perform in addition to working full-time in woodworking. In 1997, after 9 years of building furniture, he recommitted his life to Christ and left to pursue music full-time. âI believe that the Lord gives gifts and abilities to everyone, and that we should use and develop them to the best of our abilities. I wasnât doing that ...
