Straight from the hardcore Triple 6 Mafia posse comes Lil' Wyte with his hard-hitting debut DOUBT ME NOW. In the uncompromising tradition of Wyte's Three Six pals (who appear here, along with DJ Paul, the Hypnotize Camp Posse, and others), the up-and-coming young rapper is brimming with street cred, gangsta attitude, and heavy-duty rhymes. From the arresting title track to the intense "Homicidal/Suicidal" (where Lil' Wyte is joined by Saliva), the album keeps it coming hard and fast, providing a hip-hop knockout punch.
This is an example of the Southern Rap "screwed" mix style.

Miles under the radar and outside the mainstream, Memphis rap collective Three 6 Mafia's prolific, harsh, uncompromising raps have built a tremendous following through tape swapping and other grass-roots methods. Not an unusual story in the Southern rap world, but Three 6 Mafia have managed platinum success creating an even rawer world than anything on No Limit, and through a thicker sheen of syrup than the Screwed-Up Click. The outfit's latest effort DA UNBREAKABLES reveals no dearth of material or focused anger in its 18 distinctive, hypnotically undeniable cuts.
The most remarkable aspect of the album is its elaborate, dramatic production style, closest to ...
| | Frayser Boy Gone On That Bay CD (2003)
Doubt Me Now songs
$13.89 With little fanfare and even less messin', Frayser Boy stakes his claim to a place in the Three 6 Mafia hierarchy with this ear-popping collection of tight beats and crunk rapping that'll go over big with longtime fans of the Dirty South and its thick-as-molasses, heavy-with-menace production values. The title track is a spare, grainy beat punctuated by the Boy's idiosyncratic style that's won him a multitude of fans ...

| | Brian Trainor Monk And Me CD (1997)
Doubt Me Now songs
$13.39 Monk and Me could be considered a tribute to Thelonious Monk, except that only five of the CD's eleven selections were actually written by Monk. The other six are originals by Trainor, whose writing generally isn't all that Monkish on this hard bop/post-bop session. Trainor's "Monk and Me" is clearly mindful of Monk's angular style, but other Trainor originals like the reflective "Again to This Star," the reverent "One Face, One Smile, One Heart (Portrait of Mother Teresa)" and the sad, rueful "B's Waltz" have more in common with Bill Evans (one of Trainor's main influences) and Keith Jarrett. And on familiar Monk standards like "Well You Needn't" and "Straight, No Chaser," Trainor expresses his admiration for the pianist without becoming a slavish imitator. Although Trainor is basically a very "inside" hard bop/post-bop player, Cecil Taylor's radical influence ...

| | Witchcraft Firewood CD (2005)
Doubt Me Now album
$13.55 Ask a group of doom metal or stoner rock enthusiasts what band was the blueprint for the doom/stoner field, and the vast majority will -- without hesitation -- say Black Sabbath. So when a band is as Sabbath-influenced as Witchcraft, it is understandable that some headbangers would describe them as a doom band. But Witchcraft isn't nearly as forceful or as heavy as Eyehategod, Orange Goblin, or Toadliquor, and Firewood isn't typical of what has been considered doom metal and stoner rock in the '90s and 2000 -- actually, this 2005 release ...
