Perky singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Natalia Lafourcade came out of nowhere in 2003 with this chirpy yet surprisingly self-assured debut. Primarily produced by Loris Ceroni, who'd also worked with the substantially harder-rocking Alejandra Guzmán, the album nevertheless reflects Lafourcade's sensibility throughout. Songs combine acoustic guitar and a strong bossa nova influence with dashes of turntable, electronic beats, and textural sound effects like vinyl crackle. "Mango" starts off lilting, but an almost drum 'n' bass rhythm comes in quickly, injecting a strong groove that battles for supremacy with the gentle vocal and vibes; the effect is somewhat similar to recordings by Lamb or other trip-hop groups, but with a cheerfulness that's missing from those efforts. "Otra Vez" finds her crooning over a hip-hop backing track not unlike those created by Digable Planets or some neo-soul musicians. "Te Quiero Dar," by contrast, is a rocking song with amped-up guitars that points the way toward the band, Natalia y la Forquetina, that she formed for her second album. Lafourcade's voice is occasionally girlish, but just as often that of a young woman who knows exactly what she's after and is far from a tool of her producers (unlike the majority of pop stars in any country). Indeed, she quickly garnered a reputation as a unique and capable artist among her peers--she did many of the arrangements and performed in the band on Julieta Venegas' MTV UNPLUGGED concert in 2008.
NATALIA LA FOURCADE was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album.

Great Music Natalia did an awsome job. She had like 5 Latin Grammy nominations. I love this cd. I also recommend Thalia and Shakira. Submitted by a reviewer (New York, NY USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
A little late in reviewing this, but... Seeing as how nobody's spreading the gospel of Natalia on this site
(unless you count the award blurb above), I add this little review
to help persuade you to click on the price. The cover's colorful collage gives a good idea as to what's inside. Natalia creates a hodgepodge of mostly upbeat pop-rock, with such influences as Bjork, Nelly Furtado, and Los Amigos Invisibles, to name a few, while still establishing her own identity. She tackles and fuses a number of genres while firmly rooted in sensible pop craftmanship. With dreamy electronica ("Mango"), pseudo-grunge rock ("Te quiero dar"), and even a Top 40 ballad ("Mirame, Mirate"), Natalia not only proves that she's a jack of all trades, but that she's poised to master them all. "Georgina" provides the most sophisticated track on the album, layering strings and samples over drum and bass after a very Bjork-ian intro. This skillful layering, along with slick, creative production and Natalia's surprising soulfulness, add depth to the catchy hooks, inviting repeat listens even after the novelty wears off. Though not revolutionary, Natalia Lafourcade marks one of the freshest, most exciting debuts in Spanish pop/rock in the past few years. | | Dulcie Taylor Diamond And Glass CD (2002)
Natalia La Fourcade songs
$8.89 Dulcie Taylor's Diamond & Glass collects a dozen smooth, easygoing songs that mix folk, pop, and contemporary country. Highlights include the brooding "Easy for You" and "Never Enough," the lively "It Ain't Love," and the surprisingly tough "I Don't Know Anymore," which also prominently features Taylor's prowess on the dulcimer. Throughout the album, Taylor's voice is as clear and versatile as her playing and songwriting, which uses little details to tell a larger story, as on the title track and "I Have a Ring." Though the album's slower songs sound a little too similar to each other, Diamond & Glass offers enough bright spots to make it a promising debut. ~ Heather Phares
"I like to write on an immediate level," says singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Dulcie Taylor. "To me, art is communication." Delivered via a clear, supple voice and lyrics that are powerfully direct and down-to-earth, the twelve original songs collected on "Diamond & Glass" - Taylor's Black Iris label debut - beautifully reflect that sentiment.Shifting seamlessly between acoustic-based moments of sheer bliss and melancholy, Taylor -heard on dulcimer and guitar ...
