Trans Europa Express album
$9.25 Kraftwerk's music had always been completely based in technology, all the while reflecting a healthy fear of global automation. This album met that fear head on, from the plaintive musical theme and lonesome Everyman protagonism of "Computer Love" to the chilling "Home Computer," which ...

Trans Europa Express album
$7.15 It was widely assumed that when vocalist/songwriter Jon Anderson left Yes at the end of the '70s, the band was doomed. Most folks forgot that bassist/composer Chris Squire was the other founding member of the band, and he had as much to do with their sound as Anderson. It was surprising enough when the band decided to continue with a new vocalist and keyboardist. It was even more surprising when the new members turned out to be Trevor Horn (later a famed pop producer) and Geoff Downes (who would soon depart with Steve Howe for Asia). And it was downright shocking when the resultant album DRAMA turned ...
| | A M M Ammmusic CD (1966)
Trans Europa Express CD music
$19.55 The first recording by these pioneers of electro-acoustic improvisation, AMMMusic stands the test of time both as a remarkably prescient session and as an utterly powerful and deep piece of 20th century music. Drummer Eddie Prevost's superb and detailed liner notes document AMM's early history, including the confusion engendered not only in audiences and critics but even in the band members themselves, unsure if they were in a free jazz ensemble, a contemporary classical group, neither, or both. The aphorisms adorning the original LP issue (the disc includes additional portions of the concert) give some indication of what was facing listeners and musicians at the time: "An AMM performance has no beginning or ending. Sounds outside the performance are distinguished from it only by individual sensibility." Or: "Every noise has ...
| | Dick Weissman Pioneer Nights CD (2000)
Trans Europa Express music CDs
$13.85 What does one arrive at by crossing old-time music with Django Reinhardt and jazz-grass? Well, basically a beautifully strange album like Pioneer Nights. Banjoist/12-string guitarist Dick Weissman and violinist/guitarist Gary Keiski team up in various combinations to play 18 originals that, genre-wise, defy category. "Mr. Banjeaurine Man" is a lovely banjo piece that lazily twists and turns toward no particular destination, while "Wolfgang's Banjo" glides along like a lullaby. The opening "Django's Dilemma," featuring banjo and fiddle, is one of the most intriguing, addicting pieces on the album. This is the type of instrumental that Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli would have played had they been born in Appalachia instead of Paris. Although known as a banjo player, Weissman's guitar work is equally impressive. There is a lovely, bossa nova-flavored piece titled "Breeze-il," and a dusty, Far East meets Wild West piece called "Superstition Mountain." His ...

$12.65 Ross Bon and the Mighty Blue KingsSoul . Sweat . Manic Energy “My music is about the way that I embrace life; with spontaneity and emotion; it’s all about the connection!” says Ross Bon when describing his music. Bon's latest album release - with the Mighty Blue Kings - "Alive In The City" (his fifth album and fourth independent release, R-Jay Records) marks the return of what has been greatly missing the past 20 years - expressive music - rooted in soul. It’s a striking blend of rock and soul with a driving blues sense and you will undoubtedly feel the influences that are steeped in Chicago’s rich musical traditions. "Alive In The City" contains irresistible melodies with great big hooks - soulful dynamic rhythms with charismatic sex appeal; revealing the rich vocals of Ross Bon combined with layers of crisp, rootsy arrangements. Bon, explains, “This album is about people, from everyday walks of life, and things we all go through. I think everyone relates to something that’s from the heart; there’s something in it for everyone.” The album begins with the rhythmic pulse of “Tryin’ ...
| | Bob Neuwirth Havana Midnight CD (2000)
Trans Europa Express album
$19.79 Critically acclaimed, if commercially obscure, folk veteran Bob Neuwirth teamed up almost by chance with Cuban pianist-composer-arranger Jose Maria Vitier for this delightful, poignant release. Showcasing Neuwirth's wise, poetic lyrics and Vitier's superbly angular, jazz-inflected piano work, the resultant multi-cultural exchange is a career ...
