(1 Customer Review)
Possessed of a smooth and powerful "new traditionalist" singing style that often recalls the much-revered pipes of George Strait and Randy Travis, Craig Morgan delivers an album full of good-natured homespun country seemingly in stark opposition to his former career as an elite U.S. Army commando and paratrooper. Amid gently sawing fiddles and strumming acoustic guitars, the vocalist straightforwardly professes his love for his old hometown, traditional values, and the girl next door. Morgan, who wrote or co-wrote six of the 11 songs, has an eye for plainspoken but vivid detail, which often gives the album the feel of a Garrison Keillor or Tom T. Hall-style travelogue. On the more serious-themed songs, the singer is equally at home with his subject, projecting a confidence and natural warmth usually only found in much more experienced artists.

I Love It album
$6.09 "Paradise," the first track of Craig Morgan's self-titled debut CD, is a touching, well-crafted song about an ex-Army man. But for Morgan, it's not just a song--it's his life. Prior to becoming a professional musician, he spent years as an elite, highly decorated soldier in the U.S. Army. Morgan evidently applied some of that army discipline to his music, because this debut is an almost flawless country record.
His vocals, often reminiscent of Buck Owens and George Jones, are perfect for delivering such hard ...
| | Joe Nichols Man With A Memory CD (2002)
I Love It CD music
$6.69 If you think that photogenic young country singer Joe Nichols looks more like a Calvin Klein model than a honky-tonk warrior, just count your blessings that he doesn't feel bound to don an ill-fitting cowboy hat in the vain quest for the kind of phony image purveyed by far too many of his peers. Similarly, MAN WITH A MEMORY finds Nichols unafraid of sounding contemporary without completely abandoning his country roots. There's no hokey, half-assed western swing number tossed in here ...

I Love It album
$61.75 This Pearl Flapper set does include some pretty fantastic singers, many of them in the most popular performances of their career, but The Great Vocalists is compromised by its attempt to include both European-influenced vocalists in the classical mold as well as the American singers inspired by jazz and more contemporary popular music. Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Waller, Al Jolson, the Ink Spots, the Andrews Sisters -- all of these great vocal artists are represented, most with the songs that best-characterize their appeal during the '30s and '40s (though, indeed, most aren't their best performances). Much of the rest cycles between second-rank Americans (Tony Martin, the Merry Macs, ...
