Having always posited himself as the old, married guy of the post-grunge set, Everclear frontman Art Alexakis continues to explore this grown-up world on SLOW MOTION DAYDREAM. Alexakis maintains his observant, elder statesman role while warbling about the promiscuous bad-girl-turned-parent on the catchy "Volvo Driving Soccer Mom" and having taking a very Nirvana-like musical stance amidst the skewering of John Ashcroft on the pounding "Blackjack." Other targets include the nature of personal relationships (the churning "How to Win Friends and Influence People") and the struggles involved with battling ennui (hook-laden "TV Show.")
Although the trio's trademark chunka-chunka guitar sound continues to permeate every corner of their sixth album, Alexakis does add a few compositional nuances to the mix. A prominent accordion gives "Chrysanthemum" a slight South Bank flavor, and a small string section casts a melancholy shadow over "Science Fiction." Although it might seem as though Art Alexakis finds doom and gloom in everything he writes about, the old softie manages to end on a sentimental note via the harmony-soaked "New York Times."
2003 release from the Post-Grunge group, includes the first single 'Volvo Driving Soccer Mom'
Everclear: Art Alexakis (vocals, guitar); Craig Montoya (bass); Greg Eklund (drums).

Slow Motion Daydream Music Slow Motion Daydream Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) *Sigh* The first time I listened to Everclear's latest album it couldn't hold my attention. It's pretty bland, some of the songs are pretty similar. Obviously Everclear will never be as good as they once were. I'll keep purchasing their later music, as they are my favorite band, but it's disappointing. I do like some of the songs, but Art sold out and I doubt it will get better soon. Don't buy this CD, stick to Sparkle and Fade, World of Noise, and if you want, Good Time For A Bad Attitude and So Much For The Afterglow. This CD is better than Learning How To Smile, their worst CD definitely, but foreshadows their bland future. Well, thanks for the memories, Everclear! Heard It All Before??? Everclear is good, no doubt. Just listen to their music, that much is evident. But after listening to Slow Motion Daydream, the songs on the CD sound very similar to some of their other works. The lyrics are quite amazing, so that kind of makes up for it. If you dig their new pop style, you'll like the album. I wish they were still a ROCK band. Oh well, something is better than nothing. Submitted by a reviewer (Edmond, OK) Was This Review Helpful? Perfect Summer Tunes Just in time for Summer, this CD is great for cruisin' with the top down. Besides the songs mentioned above, Science Fiction and New York Times stand out too, they really grow on you the more you listen. Interesting lyrics, pure Everclear with the addition of some political commentary. Enjoy! Submitted by a reviewer (Portland, Oregon, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Slow Motion Daydream music CDs
$9.79 Over its first three albums, the West Coast band Everclear provided consistent, fairly simple, breezy, catchy, modern rock with relatively few frills. On SONGS FOR AN AMERICAN MOVIE VOL. 1, the threesome, fronted by the outspoken, charismatic Art Alexakis, suddenly finds frills galore.
The album opens on a country note with the short, soft ballad title track, before kicking into a zippy, ...
| | Jayhawks Rainy Day Music CDs (2003)
Slow Motion Daydream songs
$15.15 You never can tell what Americana/alt-country heroes the Jayhawks will do next. They started out with two voices in singer/songwriters Marc Olsen (sp?) and Gary Louris. After Olsen split, Louris spearheaded the band's most angular, least country album THE SOUND OF LIES, but RAINY DAY MUSIC turns the tables yet again by presenting the softest, most acoustic, ballad-oriented side the band has ever shown. Things start out fairly perky with the sparkling, jangly ...
