Black & White; Standard Screen; Bio/Filmographies; English Subtitles A pair of small town newlyweds travels to Rome for their honeymoon. Once there, the blushing bride finds unexpected glamour, adventure and romance -- but, unfortunately, it's not with her husband. It just so happens that her soap-opera hero, known to his fans as The White Sheik, is on a photo shoot in The Eternal City. And his larger-than-life ways soon turn her boring, sensible world upside down. A friendly satire in which a honeymooning bride, dazzled by glamour and illusion, escapes the frightening security of her future by running off with a photo-novel actor who portrays a seductive "White Sheik," but soon finds insidious reality sneaking into her romantic fantasy. The print used for the Home Vision Cinema VHS version is from the Janus Collection.
Produced by Luigi Rovere.
Distributed by PDC. White Sheik Reviews: "Fellini's first feature as solo director is a warmhearted and well-observed comedy about a naive couple on an ill-starred honeymoon in Rome."-- Geoffrey Macnab, Sight and Sound

$16.89 The title refers to the night when three men, Randy (Matt Dillon), his cousin Carl (Paul Reiser) and Detective Dehling (John Goodman), all meet Jewel Valentine (Liv Tyler) at a bar called McCool's. Actually, they don't so much meet her as fall under her spell when they first lay eyes on her. In her clinging red dress she looks like a cross between a beautiful damsel in distress and the Lady In Red looking for John Dillinger. The story begins with Randy, desperate to be rid of Jewel, hiring a sleazy hitman, played by Michael Douglas in an outré toupee. His story of how Jewel led him to ruin, filmed in a stylized flashback bathed in blue, is mirrored by Carl talking ...

$9.85 Blake Edwards's return to the male-in-meltdown territory he explored in 10 and THAT'S LIFE stars John Ritter as unemployed writer Zach, who is not only suffering from writer's block, but his drinking is out of control, as is his obsessive womanizing, and, not surprisingly, his wife wants to end their marriage. To add to his problems, his house has just burned down, and his agent is knocking at death's door. But since this is a Blake Edwards comedy, Zach has enough charm and relative affluence to continue his pursuits, which the director regards with a bemused deatchment. One of his girlfriends sets his piano on fire, and another ...

$23.39 BEWITCHED: Director Nora Ephron (SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE, YOU'VE GOT MAIL) breathes new life into the classic television show BEWITCHED in this romantic comedy of the same name. Movie star Jack Wyatt (Will Ferrell) had it all--until he made a few bad films and his wife left him. Now the washed up star is slated to play Darrin in a remake of the 1960s sitcom about a mortal man who unknowingly marries a beautiful, good-hearted witch. Determined to resuscitate his career, Jack and his agent, Richie (Jason Schwartzman), demand that an unknown be cast as the witch, Samantha, in order to maximize his screen time and star power. After an exhaustive search for the right actress--and the perfect nose wiggle--Jack spots Isabel Bigelow (Nicole Kidman) in a book store and is convinced that she can be the new Samantha. And right he is; Isabel really is a witch who is determined to try life--and hopefully love--without magic, much to the chagrin of her debonair warlock father, Nigel (Michael Caine). Immediately drawn to Jack, Isabel follows her heart and takes the role only to discover that he has no plan to share the spotlight with her, and can also be a big jerk. Can Isabel refrain from using magic to put Jack in his place and win his love? And how will Jack react when he learns Isabel's secret?
More interesting than a standard remake, the screenplay by Ephron and her sister Delia nicely weaves in the characters and basic plot of the original television series while developing a completely new story and characters. Shirley MacLaine stars as a legendary actress who plays Samantha's mother, Endora, in the new television show--and just may have a few secrets of her own. Steve Carell has an amusing turn as Uncle Arthur, a character originally played by comedian Paul Lynde.
BEWITCHED TV: This classic 1960s sitcom had a premise based on fantasy, but its charm lay in its character-driven plotlines, its intelligent humor, and the chemistry between its leading characters. Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) is a kind witch who has decided to renounce her powers and start a "normal" life with her new husband, Darrin Stephens (Dick York). Unfortunately this displeases Sam's mother, Endora (Agnes Moorehead), who disapproves of marriage between mortals and witches. Endora sets ...
