BiographiesJ. Thompson - Guitarist, writer, producerBay area guitarist, songwriter and producer J. Thompson brings over 20 years of music industry experience to the creation of "Romantic Night." Thompson began his professional music career as a teenager in the 1970's, as the guitarist for a group managed by Tommy Smothers, Clark and Marilyn Burroughs. In 1972, at the age of 19, Thompson quickly gained national recognition for his musicianship when he performed with the group on the Merv Griffin show. In the late 70's and 80's Thompson's expertise on guitar, bass and drums led him to participate in a wide range of projects. As a session bassist Thompson worked with producers Jim Gains and Allen Tousaint. Outside of the studio, Thompson played bass with the Jorge Santana band in the late 70's and 80's and with the Pablo Cruise band in the 90's. Thompson moved into the adult contemporary/adult alternative world in 1989 with his hit album, "Tell Me Tell Me." The Gavin Report (7/89) described the album as "One of the year's best independent AA releases." The album, produced by Thompson and featuring Marc Russo on sax included 2 singles written by Thompson that charted in the top 20. The instrumental "Peaceful World" played on national new age and jazz radio stations for 3 years. In addition to his guitar playing, Thompson is known for his soulful writing style and his production expertise. Thompson attributes much of his production and writing style to the work he did with New Orleans legend, Allen Tousaint. Thompson worked with Tousaint to record Jorge Santana's album "Three Mile Island" and played bass for Tousaint's own studio band.
Personnel: J. Thompson (guitar); Melisa Kary (vocals); Marc Russo (saxophone); Eddie Henderson (trumpet); Terrence Eisley (keyboards); Will Kennedy (drums); Karl Perazzo (percussion).

Romantic Night songs
$19.79 The larger-than-life music created by ELP was dependent upon the equally sizable musical/personal egos of its members. By 1977, the inevitable acrimony between the three had caused an aesthetic and spiritual decline. On the two separately issued volumes of WORKS, we can see a band on the verge of coming apart. Though the songs and arrangements are uniformly strong, there's precious little interaction. Ironically, this allowed the members' individual styles to be seen that much more clearly.
The double-length WORKS VOL. 1 is arguably ELP's last great album. Taking the personal segregation to extremes, each member of the group was given one solo side (ah, vinyl) and they participated on one group-oriented side. Emerson is represented by a self-penned piano concerto, his finest straight-classical composition up to that point. Palmer exploits the full range of his percussive abilities ...
