$11.15 You've got to hand it to the Toasters. When the third ska revival hit in the mid-'90s, they had already been on the scene for over a decade, and bandleader Rob Hingley's Moon Ska NYC label was home to some of America's (and Canada's and England's) best ska bands. They took advantage of ska's new wave of popularity by releasing a truckload of albums by young bands, and while some have criticized Moon for a certain lack of discrimination during that period, there was no question that the Toasters' own releases were of the highest quality. With the subsequent collapse of the ska revival and the partial collapse of the record industry, Moon went out of business, and the Toasters went ...

Remix EP music CDs
$11.85 Gerry Mulligan/Gerry Mulligan Quartet: Gerry Mulligan; Bill Crow (bass guitar); Gus Johnson, Bob Brookmeyer.
This 1962 concert by the Gerry Mulligan Quartet, recorded for broadcast by Swiss Radio, was finally released commercially by TCB in 1998. With frequent collaborator Bob Brookmeyer on valve trombone, bassist Bill Crow, and drummer Gus Johnson, the set primarily consists of still-fresh originals by Mulligan, as well as Brookmeyer's cooking "Open Country," a staple of Mulligan's various groups, and the lush standard "Darn That Dream." Mulligan's ballad "Love in New Orleans," long workouts of "Subterranean Blues" (with Brookmeyer switching to piano), and the playful "Spring Is Sprung" (with Mulligan on piano, and also featuring solos by Crow and Johnson), as well as Art Farmer's "Blueport," are also among the CDs high points. The interplay between Mulligan's matchless baritone sax and Brookmeyer's cool trombone is comparable to the musical ESP between Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond. Mulligan fans will definitely want to add this highly recommended disc to their collections. ...
| | Marieann Meringolo Hold Me CD (1997)
Remix EP songs
$17.09 Excerpts taken from the liner notes of Marieann Meringolo's CD Hold Me Close â€Â" Marieann's debut album is a mix of great pipes, greatsongs and an ingenue's innocence. Sure, she can display an enormous amount of vocal power â€Â" as she does on Rodgers &Hammerstein's 'This Nearly Was Mine' â€Â" but she never forgets there's a song to be sung, a story to be told. Theway the pitch dies slightly on the word '…dreaming;' the fragile note of proud despair that informs the entireperformance…what Marieann is delivering is a dramaticperformance with every song. In fact, the songs here are all small novelisticconstructs; stories powered by emotion rather thannarrative, but with a mix of musicality and theatricalitythat suggest a young Streisand. On 'Sometimes,' the NancyDaly song about romance and memory, Marieann stirs theashes of romance with a touch that's delicate and, at the same time, crushingly poignant. The song may be right;it's tough remembering the ardor of lost love. And it's just as tough forgetting this song. ...

| | Dwayne Estes Blind Ambition CD (2006)
Remix EP album
$18.99 The Dwayne Estes TrioDwayne Estes' jazz piano style is rich with soul and wisdom. After almost 20 years as a professional musician, Dwayne lost his eyesight in a freak accident and was forced to redefine his place in music. He worked to find gifted musicians who could communicate with one another musically rather than visually on stage. Thus was born the Dwayne Estes Trio and Dwayne's return to his passion for performing live jazz. The trio's first CD, Blind Ambition, is due for release in June '06. The trio includes Dwayne Estes on piano, Jay Hungerford on bass, and Brett Veolker on drums. Musicians sitting in on the CD include David Black on guitar, Chris Sabick on Latin percussion, and Steven Milloy on vocals. He began his professional music career at age 15 playing jobs in his native Evansville, Indiana. He soon developed a love for jazz improvisation, and having played across the United States, settled in St. Louis where he attended Webster University studying with St. Louis piano great Carolbeth True. After a brief stint in Nashville, Tennessee working as a musical director for Gaylord Entertainment, Dwayne returned to his adopted home of St. Louis where he completed a masters degree in Jazz Studies. Dwayne has continued to play in and around St. Louis for the last 20 years. It was during this time that he lost his eyesight in a freak accident. He is very proud to present the Dwayne Estes Trio. Playing many private parties and house pianist for the St. Louis Country Club. In 2003 Dwayne invites you to sit back and enjoy the greatest music America has ever produced. This recording marks an important milestone in my emotional recovery from the freak accident 10 years ago that left me legally blind ...
