| | Ultrablue Dusk 2 Dawn CD Ultrablue Discography of CDs
Dusk 2 Dawn is a sensual collection of smooth jazz, R&B, and contemporary grooves brought into the spotlight by such popular musicians as Rachel Z, Dave Stryker, and special guest vocalist Kevin Mahogany. The set opens with the title track and floats on aural waves of sensual, breezy grooves set by guitarist Stryker and David Mann's sexy alto saxophone. Mahogany's take on Stevie Wonder's major hit "Love's in Need of Love Today," is memorable at best due to Mahogany's convincing baritone voice. This is yet another example of a well-structured composition with lyrics that have withstood the test of time and relevancy. Mahogany's phrasings are well paced and the background vocalists really add a nice flavor to his lead vocals. Rachel Z provides superior accompaniment on acoustic piano on "Faithful." This pensive, meditative song is one that should inspire listeners to sit back and reflect and is one that will also appeal to those who like the sound of an electro-acoustic groove. Despite this being the first gathering of Ultrablue, the sounds they make together genuinely reflect their ability to groove with one another on any musical level. ~ Paula Edelstein
ULTRABLUE is a gathering of some of the East Coast's leading names from the world of contemporary jazz, including saxophonists David Mann and Pete Belasco, guitarist Dave Stryker, pianist Rachel Z, and special guest vocalist Kevin Mahogany. Their debut album DUSK 2 DAWN is a cool and sensual collection that beautifully blends smooth jazz, r & b, and contemporary grooves. Studio guru John Smatla seamlessly weaves stellar performances from the all-star cast with super-tight production on nine hook-laden originals and a spirited remake of Stevie Wonder's "Love's In Need Of Love Today" featuring Kevin Mahogany's stylish vocals. From the street-wise funk of "That Was Then" to the hypnotic and sultry "Oasis" to the latin-tinged "Brasilia" to the soulful urban ballad, "Blind", this wide-ranging set is sophisticated throughout. Evocative, sensuous, and eminently musical - the sound of the city by night is ULTRABLUE "Dusk 2 Dawn".

Purchase Dusk 2 Dawn CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Jeff Lorber Philly Style CD (2003)
Dusk 2 Dawn album
$13.39 The soul-jazz minded keyboardist has been a legendary pop-fusion and smooth-jazz artist for several decades, and producer Steven Dubin had been a huge smooth-jazz force for several years (working with Peter White, Richard Elliot and Najee). The two Philadelphia natives never crossed paths (despite having gone to the same high school and played the same clubs), however, until Lorber hired him to work on his album Kickin' It. This disc continues the fun, feisty and funky retro-soul vibe of that disc in an even fuller celebration of their Phillyness. Lorber is so well known for his old ...

| | David Benoit Benoit/Freeman Project 2 CD (2004)
Dusk 2 Dawn music CDs
$9.65 Creatively, David Benoit has had his ups and downs over the years. The pianist/keyboardist has recorded more than his share of forgettable smooth jazz albums, but he has also provided some decent straight-ahead discs that were greatly influenced by Bill Evans (the pianist, not the saxophonist). This 2004 release, however, doesn't fall into either category -- Benoit/Freeman Project 2, a collaboration with guitarist Russ Freeman, isn't straight-ahead acoustic jazz, but it isn't an album of mindless "elevator Muzak" either. For the most part, this CD could be described as ...
| | Steve Oliver 3-D CD (2004)
Dusk 2 Dawn songs
$14.79 As one reviewer said of the cheerful music and personality of this increasingly popular voice of smooth jazz guitar, it's Disneyland all the time with him. In other words, Positive Energy, the name of his second genre disc, wasn't just a happy marketing tool. And the title of this disc is appropriate, too, because with the co-production help of founding Spyro Gyra keyboardist Tom Schuman, Oliver digs deep into a rich variety of influences for a multifaceted romp through the worlds of pop, jazz, urban/hip-hop, worldbeat, Brazilian, and Latin music. While focusing as ...
| | Brian Culbertson It's On Tonight CD (2005)
Dusk 2 Dawn album
$11.99 With its seething, laid-back funk beats and steamy lyrics full of obvious references to romantic trysts, it doesn't get any sexier than Brian Culbertson's IT'S ON TONIGHT. A number of prominent crossover jazz artist lend their talents here. For example, the downtempo title track features a sensual R&B ...
