| | Hard To Find Orchestral Instrumentals, Vol. 2 CD (3 Customer Reviews)
Hard to Find Orchestral Instrumentals, Vol. 2 gathers up 20 lush, rich, and string-filled songs played by a wide variety of big orchestras both well-known, like Nelson Riddle's orchestra, and lost to the vagaries of time, like Sir Chauncey & His Exciting Strings. The songs are a mix of movie themes -- like Bill Conti's "Gonna Fly Now (Theme From Rocky)," Ferrante & Teicher's "Theme From The Apartment," and Felix Slatkin's "Theme From The Sundowners" -- and pop songs like Sil Austin's weepy version of "Danny Boy," Franck Pourcel's "Chariot (I Will Follow Him)," and George Martin's orchestral take on the Beatles' "This Boy." The disc is consistently lush and would make any elevator ride a pleasant journey. If you like beautiful melodies played by lots and lots of violins, this is the perfect disc for you. ~ Tim Sendra

Hard To Find Orchestral Instrumentals, Vol. 2
$9.69 Nights Are Forever was the breakthrough album for Dan Seals and John Coley after some sincere and excellent work on A&M Records in the early '70s. Two of their biggest hits were the title track and the beautiful "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight." Those songs are a good indication of the fine performances this 1976 album contains. The duo's originals like "Long Way Home" and the Dan Fogelberg-ish "Westward Wind" could have been hits as well displaying superb musicianship and delicate vocals. This album is very much a companion piece ...
| | England Dan Dr. Heckle & Mr. Jive CD (1978) Reissued
Hard To Find Orchestral Instrumentals, Vol. 2
$9.55 The sincerity of their days on A&M Records has turned to total formula by the time Dr. Heckyl & Mr. Jive came around -- and Robert Louis Stevenson expert, author Ray McNally, makes it clear in his book on Mr. Hyde that the true pronunciation is Dr. Jeekill (as in, "I Kill and Hide"). It is quite a paradox that this justified attack on the Hollywood system uses the mispronunciation of this famous title which Hollywood forced upon the world. Were these singers that clever to have slipped this in as a sly parody? Probably not -- because the sentiment in the poem here is right on, but the execution of the title ...

Hard To Find Orchestral Instrumentals, Vol. 2
$10.65 If Dowdy Ferry Road was their bleak moment in song, Some Things Don't Come Easy is the calm before the storm, a port prior to the schizophrenia that was Dr. Heckyll and Mr. Jive. Wandering songs like "Who's Lonely Now" are indicative of this album, and it is only one of two titles ...

Hard To Find Orchestral Instrumentals, Vol. 2
$12.35 Except for a temporary hiatus brought on by some major lineup changes, Diecast have been loyal, card-carrying, on time, dues-paying members of the "United New England Hardcore Metal Bands" union -- unlikely to be confused with the vast, recently franchised and still unproven masses crowding the factory floor, yet also still struggling to break out of the middle echelons to join union leaders like Killswitch Engage, Hatebreed, and Shadows Fall. Which is a goofy way of saying that, for the most part, 2006's Internal Revolution is a two-sided affair. On the one hand, it offers the same, expertly performed but done-to-death genre trademarks heard on the previous year's Tearing Down Your Blue Skies, and about a thousand contemporary hardcore metal albums. Just listen to production line items like the title cut "Never Forget," "S.O.S.," ...
