Emmy Award-winning screen and stage star John Leguizamo stars as a young, lightning-fast Latino boxer who must navigate the path between his newfound fame, with all its seductive trappings, and his humble yet proud roots of growing up on the hardscrabble, mean streets of Jackson Heights, Queens, New York. In the post-Civil War era, two colonels, one from the Union army and the other from the Confederate, continue their war with each other in Mexico. Each man's army ends up south of the border for different reasons, but they engage in one last, horrific battle secretly initiated by a treacherous Mexican general. After the Civil War, former Union Colonel John Henry Thomas (John Wayne) and Confederate Colonel James Langdon (Rock Hudson) are leading expeditions to Mexico, where Langdon will establish a new settlement away from Carpetbaggers and Thomas will sell horses. Along the way they must put aside their differences to deal with a threatening Mexican general. THE UNDEFEATED also features Los Angeles Rams stars Merlin Olson and Roman Gabriel. $19.29 Christopher Münch's quiet, evocative COLOR OF A BRISK AND LEAPING DAY tells the beautifully elegiac story of a young man's attempt to grab a piece of the past from a stultifyingly impersonal modern world. John Lee (Peter Alexander) has loved trains all his life, often relating the story of his Chinese grandfather's early days helping build the first railroads in America. When John discovers that the Yosemite River Valley line has closed down, he is determined to bring it back from the dead by making it the best way to travel to the national park. But he soon discovers that dreams often come at a heavy price.
Münch's film is bathed in retro black and white and features long dialogue-free scenes that make it look and feel like an old silent documentary, moving at a refreshingly slow pace as John struggles to find a ridership with Albert Robinson (the wonderful Henry Gibson) and Skeeter (played with offbeat understatement by R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe) by his side. Meanwhile, John's relationship ...
