| | Demolition Doll Rods On CD (2004)
Raging Teens, Vol. 4 CD music
$11.59 More than a decade after the life of the Gories, the foxy garage explosion of Demolition Doll Rods prevailed. Danny Doll Rod (vocals/guitar), Margaret Doll Rod (guitar/vocals), and Thumpurr Doll Rod (drums), who are known for performing with next to nothing on, ignite a R&B, blues-tailored rock fire on their third album, On. Their first for Swami, it's a collection of tracks resulting from over two and half years of writing and recording and is their long-awaited follow-up to 1999's T.L.A.. Demolition Doll Rods have every intention of teaching the White Stripes and other Motor City copycats a thing or two, because On is balls-to-the-wall, in-your-face, red-toothed rock & roll. From the rockabilly hip-shakers "All the Stars" and "Take It Off" to the girlish ear candy of "Hot Pink," Demolition Doll Rods' strut never stops. The trio's white-hot ...
| | Flamin Groovies Flamin' Groovies Now CD (1978)
Raging Teens, Vol. 4 music CDs
$14.05 While it took a long and torturous five years for the Flamin' Groovies to find their way back to an American record deal with Shake Some Action, a year and a half later the band had a follow-up ready, and while 1978's Flamin' Groovies Now isn't quite as cohesive as the album that preceded it, in many respects the band sounds at once tighter and more relaxed, with some time on the road firming up the rhythm section while giving the songs a bit more room to swing (which wasn't one of the strong suits of the British Invasion bands that provided their aural template). The band lost guitarist James Ferrell during the post-Shake Some Action tour, but former Charlatans picker Mike Wilhelm proved to be a more than simpatico replacement on these sessions, and while leader Cyril Jordan didn't come up with another new song as transcendent as ...
| | No Direction Home Soundtrack - Bootleg Series 7 No Direction Home: The Bootleg Series Vol. 7 CDs (2005)
Raging Teens, Vol. 4 songs
$16.09 The soundtrack to Martin Scorcese's two-part PBS documentary on Bob Dylan, NO DIRECTION HOME is a two-disc affair consisting almost entirely of previously unreleased material. One couldn't start any further towards the beginning of Dylan's career than this collection's first track, "When I Got Troubles," a modest, folkish tune caught on tape by a high school friend and presumed to be the first original Dylan song ever recorded. From there, we follow the breakneck trajectory of Dylan's early career, as he ...
| | A-Bones I Was A Teenage Mummy CD (1992) Soundtrack
Raging Teens, Vol. 4 album
$13.05 If you were going to make a low-budget black-and-white horror flick about a pack of leather-jacketed JDs and a high-school cheerleader turned into one of the Egyptian living dead, who would you hire to do the music? Filmmaker Christopher C. Frieri asked himself that very question and wisely chose New York's loud and proud rock & roll purists the A-Bones to score I Was a Teenage Mummy, and the band whipped up nine appropriately crazed tunes for the occasion. If the resultant ...

| | Kinski Airs Above Your Station CD (2003)
Raging Teens, Vol. 4 album
$11.75 Kinski's excellently named Airs Above Your Station picks up where Be Gentle With the Warm Turtle left off, mixing alternately buzzing and shimmering guitars and subtle electronic flourishes into eight epics that bridge post-rock and space rock. As with its previous work, on this album Kinski's style is remarkably linear; most of the tracks embellish one or two themes apiece instead of linking different but related ideas. Sometimes this works: the hypnotic, 11-minute "Schedule for Using Pillows & Beanbags" features a delicate guitar line that hardens into a see-sawing riff that repeats over and over, while hissing synths and drums fall in and out of the mix. "Waves of Second Guessing" also makes good use of Kinski's ...

| | Toninho Horta To Jobum With Love CD (2008) Digipak
Raging Teens, Vol. 4 CD music
$13.55 Toninho Horta has been a reliable sideman and occasionally a leader in his lengthy career playing contemporary Brazilian music. The acoustic and electric guitarist has a quiet intensity that reflects the passion and verve of genius composer Antonio Carlos Jobim. This tribute to Jobim is quite laden with string charts, most done quite tastefully, rarely overarranged, and pleasantly emphasizing a flute section. Horta has an impressive complementary combo of pianist Dave Kikoski, bassist Gary Peacock, percussionists Paulo Braga and Manolo Badrena, special guests as saxophonist Bob Mintzer, harmonicist William Galison, trumpeter Glenn Drewes, ...
