Hotly tipped Danish nu-rock band! Whip It On is basically a soundtrack album, a film noir storybook of eight solid tracks blazing with attitude. Digipak. Columbia. 2003.
Danish duo the Raveonettes strike a slick pose on their debut EP, Whip It On. It's a slinky post-punk mix recorded entirely in B-flat minor while each song thrives on only three chords. Minimalist and stylish, Whip It On doesn't go for the grandiosity of the Strokes and the White Stripes. The Raveonettes are ambitious in their own way, and it works brilliantly. Debut single "Attack of the Ghost Riders" glides with an extraterrestrial flair, Sharin Foo and Sune Rose Wagner's wispy vocals surfing along momentous percussion. The high-speed garage-y "Do You Believe Her" shimmies with a darker posture, but that's exactly what the Raveonettes are going for. Whip It On is basically a soundtrack album, a film noir storybook of eight solid tracks blazing with attitude. "Cops on Our Tail" is nonchalant in a vexed moment, but never cavalier. Whip It On is a decent look at what the Raveonettes are capable of, certainly an honest effort, but more impressive in the sense that they're rock & roll antagonists. ~ MacKenzie Wilson
The Raveonettes: Sune Rose Wagner, Sharin Foo.
Entertainment Weekly (3/28/03, p.69) - "...Their intriguing combo of cranky fuzz and plaintive melody is as easily taken for a salute to '60s transistor-radio pop as for Jesus And Mary Chain worship..." - Rating: B Uncut (3/03, p.114) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...[They] come on like a rockabilly Jesus And Mary Chain..." CMJ (11/25/02, p.6) - "...The kind of exhilaratingly noirish trip into the seedier side of life we all secretly dream of. Come get your fix..." Mojo (Publisher) (1/03, p.99) - "...Triumphant for its superior tunes and trend-buckingly post-'65 production....This band could, and should, go mega. Rave on, indeed..." Purchase Whip It On CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Neil Young On The Beach CD (1974) Remastered
Whip It On album
$8.99 After working his way through loss and chaos on the brilliant TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT (recorded in 1973, but not released until 1975), Neil Young deftly exorcised any lingering demons with 1974's ON THE BEACH. The album opens with the saunter of the aptly titled "Walk On," followed by the utterly gorgeous, Wurlitzer-tinged "See the Sky about to Rain."
The set also features a trio of scathing songs--"Revolution Blues," "Vampire Blues," and "Ambulance Blues"--that address issues important to Young, both social and personal. It is good to hear Young back with such bite and vitriol, especially after the broken desperation of TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT. But while ON THE BEACH is edgy and deeply felt, it also manages to sound liberating and relaxed, with glimmers of hope and humor ...
| | Raveonettes Chain Gang Of Love CD (2003)
Whip It On CD music
$7.59 Channeling the strangely simpatico combination of Buddy Holly and the Jesus & Mary Chain, the Raveonettes have become masters of their own feedback-soaked pop in the space of one EP and this album, CHAIN GANG OF LOVE. Comprised of core members Sune Rose Wagner (vocals, guitar) and Sharin Foo (vocals, bass), this Danish group revels in quick, catchy ditties that will have you dancing around your living room in three minutes or less.
While their EP focused on dark, minor-key tracks such as "Attack ...
| | Arcade Fire Funeral CD (2004)
Whip It On music CDs
$11.89 This Montreal ensemble's fiery debut is marked by surging guitars, soulful strings, driving drums, brilliant bass lines, and the quavering vocals of married couple Win Butler and Regine Chassagne. The group's song structures careen through a vast territory of musical and personal history, with lyrics warm with memories of childhood neighborhoods and deceased loved ones, resulting in an alternating current of joy and sadness.
Favorably compared to the Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, and Broken Social Scene, the Arcade Fire's sound seems to come from a lifetime of listening to the Cure, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, and many others--even a dose of soul gets worked into these grand anthems. Chassagne delivers some spellbinding vocals on "Haiti," while the tinkling ...
| | Kaiser Chiefs Employment CD (2005)
Whip It On songs
$8.49 Emerging in an era rife with New Wave rip-off artists, the Kaiser Chiefs ran the risk of their sharp suits, angular haircuts, and early-1980s influences being taken the wrong way. While many of their peers shamelessly aped the most obvious aspects of the Cure, New Order, et al, Kaiser ...
| | Raveonettes Pretty In Black CD (2005)
Whip It On album
$7.59 For the Raveonettes' second full-length album, Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo hide their Jesus & Mary Chain-inspired approach in the trunk and take off in a car fueled by vintage 1950s/early-'60s sounds. Here the Danish duo goes for a refined, mellower sound that is enhanced by the pop smarts of returning producer Richard Gottehrer (Blondie). And while earlier ...

$18.69 Originally a 13 track LP, this double CD edition of FROM GENESIS TO REVELATION contains 21 tracks plus an interview with Jonathan King, the original manager of Genesis.
The first full-length release from Genesis, FROM GENESIS TO REVELATION, was recorded while the band were still teenagers in prep school. Produced by pop legend Jonathan King, FROM GENESIS TO REVELATION is, by and large, a lushly orchestrated recording--a feature that band has subsequently been very critical of. Most fans agree that this release bears little resemblance ...
