Danish duo the Raveonettes strike a slick pose on their debut EP, Whip It On. It's a slinky post-punk mix recorded entirely in B-flat minor while each song thrives on only three chords. Minimalist and stylish, Whip It On doesn't go for the grandiosity of the Strokes and the White Stripes. The Raveonettes are ambitious in their own way, and it works brilliantly. Debut single "Attack of the Ghost Riders" glides with an extraterrestrial flair, Sharin Foo and Sune Rose Wagner's wispy vocals surfing along momentous percussion. The high-speed garage-y "Do You Believe Her" shimmies with a darker posture, but that's exactly what the Raveonettes are going for. Whip It On is basically a soundtrack album, a film noir storybook of eight solid tracks blazing with attitude. "Cops on Our Tail" is nonchalant in a vexed moment, but never cavalier. Whip It On is a decent look at what the Raveonettes are capable of, certainly an honest effort, but more impressive in the sense that they're rock & roll antagonists. ~ MacKenzie Wilson

This band play the type of music you hope you just hear once in your life time. The way it sounds can't be descibed because i've never heard anything like it in a positive way.

I picked this cd up because it was cheap and had my favorite colors on the cover, this album is awsome, I recomend it to anyone who can take the coolness.

i like the fuzzy distortion. the cool, dark lyrics are great. no need to skip any songs. if you like one, you'll like them all.

Originally released in 1989 (and reissued by Metal Blade in 2007), this mid-career album still holds up musically, with its equal mix of well-played ballads, mid-tempo head-bangers, and anthemic rockers.

Curiously, just as it had happened with their chief inspiration, Alice Cooper, a decade earlier, by the time they released final album, Master of Disguise, in 1989, Lizzy Borden (the band) had been dismantled and overwhelmed by Lizzy Borden the persona and singer, with only drummer Joey Scott Harges surviving from the original lineup, and that's because he was Lizzy's brother! Musically, too, the subsequent next step was eerily analogous, since, much like Alice's triumphant solo debutant ball, Welcome to My Nightmare, Lizzy Borden's next dance, Master of Disguise, was a highly stylized concept album built on surprisingly solid compositional ground, and did much to eradicate thoughts of recent blunders (in Alice's case it had been the ...
