Brazilian Sketches CD music
$15.29 This compilation contains 38 songs, including many new remixes from original master tapes, 6 previously unreleased songs, alternate versions of 3 others, and a comprehensive 36 page booklet, with historic liner notes and photos.
This excellent two-disc collection captures Poco's finest moments from the days when they were laying down the template for all the country-rock music that was to follow. It's hard to remember, but when the Eagles first hit the scene, they were thought by many to be a Poco-wannabe band. Listen to this set and you'll hear why. The Forgotten Trail (1969-1974) culls tracks from Poco's first eight albums, as well as unreleased cuts and singles. ...
| | Jim Tomlinson Only Trust Your Heart CD (2000)
Brazilian Sketches music CDs
$13.15 This is a pleasant, very traditional jazz offering from British tenor saxophonist Jim Tomlinson, who is strongly influenced by the suave, pre-bop style of Lester Young. Leading off with a "Sweet Georgia Brown"-based original called "Makin' Brownies," Tomlinson and band establish a confident, swinging feel that sets up strong solos by the leader, pianist John Pearce, and guitarist Colin Oxley. Bassist Simon Thorpe and drummer Steve Brown ably handle rhythm section ...

Brazilian Sketches album
$17.95 Had the Persuasions not gone the a cappella route in the '60s and '70s, it's quite possible that they would have become as huge as the Temptations, the Dells, the Four Tops, the Dramatics, or the Impressions. But unfortunately, most listeners are so used to hearing instruments that they have difficulty getting into a cappella performances -- even when the vocalists are as talented and expressive as the Persuasions. ...

| | Jim Suhler Tijuana Bible CD (2007)
Brazilian Sketches songs
$12.49 Among the things guitarist Jim Suhler likely learned from his occasional boss George Thorogood is that three chords and a ton of sweat can get you pretty far in the blues-boogie business. On Suhler's fifth album, he plows through riffs that anyone with a ZZ Top or Thorogood album will recognize. And even if the songs aren't going to redefine the genre, they are more than just skeletons on which to hang hot guitar licks and a tough, swampy groove. Credit veteran blues-rock producer Tom Hambridge for bulking up the sound without cluttering it. On "Black Sky," the beat is pushed pedal to the metal like "Radar Love" as Suhler solos over a driving rhythm section. The guitarist rips a page from the Robin Trower songbook on "Deep Water Lullaby," bringing a Hendrix-styled "Little Wing" ballad to the mix as Joe Bonamassa guests on guitar. Buddy Leach's overdubbed saxes blow soul into the mix on the slow blues "Years of Tears" as Suhler uses his slide to slashing effect. Suhler gets his slow funk groove on for the Lightnin' Hopkins tribute "Po' Lightnin'," another tune where his slide gets a greasy workout. The 16 tracks are dominated by 13 originals and ...
