Linford Nugent was born in Morant Bay, St. Thomas (Jamaica)and from a very early age, his irrestible passion for music was obvious. Most of his pre-teen years were spent in the church where his mom was an ardent supporter, and she wasted no time ensuring that young Linford was always included in the church activities. As it happened, Linford's mom, Mother Dennis, was a great vocalist, and her talent was quickly adapted by him. Linford's deep love for music accelerated and the church choir became his first stage. Linford could hardly wait for Sundays to have an opportunity to display his growing vocal talent.The next phase in Linford's musical development was the discovery of and the excitement for music radio. He began spending most of his free time listening to his favorite stations where he cultivated a special fondness for Nat King Cole. Linford knew that he needed another arena for his music and so he participated in many school talent competitions and ended up winning more than a few first places. His love for music further intensified and this took him on yet another avenue of growth. Dave Palmer is an experienced session pianist who is known for his work with Air, Fiona Apple, Seal, Chris Isaak, Joe Henry, Bobby Previte, Wayne Horvitz, MC 900 Foot Jesus, Aimee Mann, Solomon Burke, Turin Brakes, Cake, Lindsey Buckingham and many more... Dave writes in the liner notes for ROMANCE... This recording had it's early beginnings in a hotel room in parisover two years ago. i was on tour and somehow wrangled a digital pianoto be rented and delivered to my room. i spent the next three daysplaying whatever came to mind and drinking red wine, quite peaceful andopen to the vibe of my surroundings. by the second day a compositionemerged seemingly of it's own volition. it was 'romance #1', the piecewhich opens this recording. it was named in just such a manner fromit's inception as i felt it embodied my sentimental impressions ofthose rainy parisian days and also because i instinctively felt therewould be more compositions to follow in the footsteps of this piece. flash forward to summer 2005. i had been harboring an idea for apiano recording project for several months. i had what i felt were anice handful of compositions that embodied a particular esthetic whichi wanted to pour into a collective work. i was unsure of how to bringit all to fruition or even if my ideas would be cogent once puttogether in reality. luckily for me i ran into ethan johns at just theright time. my friend and wonderful singer/songwriter juliana raye had beenaffiliated with ethan for quite sometime. after i had bumped into herat a show in hollywood she asked if i would come to ethan's studio andplay on some of her new songs, an offer to which i readily agreed. itwas during this session that i initiated a creative relationship withethan and fell in love with his piano. the instrument was a bluthner grand from the early 1900's. as soon asi played it i knew i had to record some of my own music using it as amedium. i approached ethan with the idea and we intially decided toswap my services as a session musican for recording time on the pianowith ethan at the controls. after the first day of recording we bothfelt that a collective project was in order and thus we embarked upon aseries of recording dates(i believe there were six in total) which ledto the collection of material which stands as the finished work athand. as to the material of which this recording is comprised i wouldfirstly state that it all falls under an umbrella of a particular moodor sonic pallette ...
