Love and Easy Living is the sound of Central Falls at their most tuneful, languid, and elegiac. Truckstop as a label is well-known for its melancholy records, but seldom have they been as sweet and even bright as this one. Adam and Ben Vida have dumped the pedal steel; added organ, electric piano, and electric bass to the mix; and even added a horn section to three cuts to create a summery dreamscape of gorgeously mopey love songs. Craft and textural exploration meet in a seamless whole on tracks such as "The Fights Are Staged," with its easy, shuffling swing and melodic, distorted guitars in the bridge. The jazzier elements -- such as the slippery quote from George Gershwin's "Summertime" on the opener, "Springtime," and the Jim Hall-meets-Neil Young guitaristry on "Don't Concern Yourself" -- are truly innovative. Songwriting as displayed by Central Falls is an art composed of dedication to craft and the willingness to let form be informed by the margins of sound itself. Adam Vida's words are from the heart of the heart of nowhere, which is perhaps where marked territory of the heart actually is demarcated. These are slinky lines, more like postcards than letters, more observation than story, but the emotional effect is the same, despite the lack of edges; a reference check would be "Weekenders" (with beautiful Jeb Bishop and Ernst Karel on trombone and flugelhorn), with its lyric: "You weekenders can f*ck off/I am here forever." The cascading guitars, which bring angles into the center of the mix, are striking in contrast with the rest of the album, but they are momentary; soon everything floats back into the misty whorl of sonic cloud and atmosphere. If Love and Easy Living has any shortcomings, they are in its samey-sounding pace, but this may have more to do with Adam Vida's singing than anything else. His voice is quite lovely, but he phrases everything the same; but it also serves another purpose in that all the songs drift into and out of another, offering the listener an extended, dreamy journey into the ether of love's murkiness and necessity. Forget the sophomore slump; Love and Easy Living is better than the band's debut, Latitude. ~ Thom Jurek

Love And Easy Living songs
$13.25 "Solitary Road," is an album of simple melodies and beautiful arrangements... a bit reminiscent an era where some of the all-time great singer-songwriters ruled the airwaves, yet Vincent keeps them fresh with his own contemporary production and lyrical bent. "Entertainment Today" calls it, "A collection of moving, introspective tunes that could melt even the iciest of hearts." Vincent's musical roots are in the catchy, melodic tunes that were magic to the ears of the youngest child in a politically charged family in Berkeley, California. Vincent would often retreat to his room and dream of riding the radio waves himself someday. "While most kids were watching TV, I was playing Radio DJ, taping and engineering my own shows on an old reel-to-reel recorder I had found in the basement, and splicing them together with Scotch tape." An original snippet saved from those days eerily indicative of the boy's destiny - introduces the songs on "Solitary Road." "I Should Understand" from the new album represents the songwriter's current state of unrest when "I don't recognize the world I used to know. It only lives inside those childhood days when we thought we'd play for good. I never understood how all the roads led here."The acoustic guitar driven "Sierra," is Vincent's plea to promote peace and caring for our planet and was inspired by the work of John Denver and John Muir. "I always thought Denver had used his fame in an appropriate manner," Vincent said. "And John Muir was an amazing guy who saw all this coming 130 years ago. What I wouldn't give to have a think tank of Muir, Denver, and Thoreau making our environmental choices."Another track, "If I Had Anything," written at Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts (in the company of a Great Blue Heron), is "the antithesis of 'Sierra,'" Vincent explains. "This one harkens to the day where we needn't worry about the heavy stuff, when love was as simple as a song." Love is rarely simple though, and Vincent plays this out copiously on Solitary Road. "Let Me Let Go," with its over-the-top piano production (Vincent calls it "Maniloaf"- part Manilow, part Meatloaf), speaks of the torment of being in love with the wrong person. He even called in famed Manilow producer, Ron Dante, to contribute backing vocals."Remember Me," the first ...

Featuring contributions from heavyweights such as Alain Caron and Wilson Laurencin, the album blends many styles seamlessly together for an enjoyable listen" CANADIAN MUSICIAN MAGAZINEContemporary jazz with world beat overtones aptly describes the music of Canadian/Armenian multi-instrumentalist/composer Levon Ichkhanian. A third generation musician and artist of great versatility, Levon is proficient on the fretted and fretless guitars, oud, bouzouki, mandolin and banjitar. Levon's musical odyssey first took shape in Lebanon. "I had several monumental experiences growing up which had a rich influence on me culturally and musically. My Dad exposed me to jazz and continental music letting me sit in during his band rehearsal, and as the musical director for shows. The family would travel with him to places like Yemen, Jordan and Cyprus. My Uncles Joseph and Jacques introduced classical and flamenco guitar music to me. Joseph would often host gatherings filled with musicians, dancers and painters celebrating their art. I also have vivid memories of spending summer trips with my family to the Northern part of Lebanon. At night there would be parties filled with traditional Armenian and popular Arabic music (Adiss and Fairuz were the favorites), dancing and lots of food that went on until the small hours of the night. These experiences have influenced me profoundly in my music and in my person, as I continue to further explore the future"Levon studied classical guitar under the direction of his uncle, Professor Joseph Ichkhanian. At the age of twelve, his family immigrated to Canada. One year later, he gravitated to the electric guitar and began his professional performing career, playing in a band with his jazz pianist father Edouard. Levon’s first professional gig was at the age of 13 with Adiss, the pioneer modern Armenian singer.Levon's talent was sufficiently recognized ...
