Trio album
$11.05 Originally released on Impulse (9199). Includes liner notes by Jameelah Ali.
Digitally remastered by Erick Labson using 20-bit technology at MCA Studios.
After Karma was issued and Sanders had established himself -- to himself -- as a musician who had something valuable and of use to say, he was on what this critic considers to be a divinely inspired tear. Deaf Dumb Blind is an example of that inspiration. Beginning with the title cut, a suite of over 21 minutes, Sanders brings in the whole of his obsession with rhythm and R&B. Using African percussion, bylophones, shakers, cowbells, and all manner of percussion, as well as drummer Clifford Jarvis, Sanders brought in Cecil McBee to hold down the ...

| | Children On The Corner Rebirth CD (2003)
Trio music CDs
$12.95 Even more come across the time-worn paths of ether and obscurity: Children on the Corner is a collective made up of ex-Miles Davis sidemen from his eclectic years that include Sonny Fortune, Michael Henderson, Badal Roy, Ndugu Chancler, and Barry Finnerty. The band is led by keyboardist and composer Michael Wolff, the only non-Davis personnel. Rebirth was recorded live over two nights at the popular Oakland, CA, nightspot Yoshi's. The program is a set of tunes from Davis, as well as some group and Wolff originals. The album kicks off with one of the most inspiring readings of Josef Zawinul's "Directions." For over 21 minutes, Fortune and Wolff explore the outer ...
| | Henry Kaiser Yo Miles!: Sky Garden CDs (2004) Sacd Hybrid
Trio songs
$19.75 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
Sky Garden and Upriver were recorded at the same sessions, featuring the same band. A parallel can be drawn to Miles' Pangaea and Agharta, which were both recorded on the same day by the same band. Agharta was the afternoon show and Pangaea the evening show, and it's reflected in the performances. Agharta was more aggressive and in-your-face while Pangaea was more subdued and introspective ...

| | Antonio Carlos Jobim Jazz Round Midnight CD (1998)
Trio songs
$9.89 Antonio Carlos Jobim's entry in Verve's late '90s JAZZ ROUND MIDNIGHT series is a fine collection of the more romantic side of the Brazilian singer/songwriter's work. More so than most jazz performers, Jobim's style of music is well-suited to ...

| | D O A Live Free Or Die CD (2004)
Trio CD music
$13.89 Leave it to a Canadian to spell out something a fair amount of early 21st century Americans seem to have forgotten -- then again, Joey Keithley, under the Joey Shithead guise or not, has inadvertently made a career out of just that. If Live Free or Die isn't any reinvention of the wheel, on the heels of Keithley's brilliant autobiography I, Shithead, it's a potent reminder of what energy and demons make him do what he does in the first place -- rock loudly and politically, no holds barred. That said, those who haven't tuned into D.O.A. for a bit might be pleasantly surprised by some of the twists and turns on this one -- for a start, a number of songs are the trio's own way around ska, backed up with some guest performers on horns. The results are the merrily-bouncing if lyrically sharp "Earache," "Drive My Car" (no, not that one) and "You Won't Stand Alone (ska-sized)," ...
