The acoustic guitar in "Kein Zurück" should be the first indication that Wolfsheim is maturing. It's a tad unusual for this synth pop notable, but this unexpected element fits in acceptably after the initial jolt. Another chance the German duo takes is slowing things down a notch. The first half of Casting Shadows hovers around 100 bpm. After the success of the dance tracks from Spectators, that may or may not be a good idea. Wolfsheim's fifth album shows signs of a band mellowing out but slightly losing its passion. Among the slower tracks is "Care for You," a leisurely excursion that accents Peter Heppner's distinguished vocals. "Find You're Gone" and "Wundervoll" (one of a couple tracks sung in German) are appropriate for the clubs and are memorable just not quite as strong or emotional. There isn't another "Once in a Lifetime," but there is plenty of romantic synth pop here nonetheless. ~ Kenyon Hopkin

Wolfsheim Casting Shadows Songs Casting Shadows Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Your novel ideas have already occured to others. To me, it seem Wolfsheim has climbed into my head looked around for a bit, then written lyrics stolen from the dark corner of my subconsious. This CD is great overall, although I don't care for the Title track nearly as much as any of the other songs. Highlights for me include Wundervol, I won't believe, Care for you, and In Time.
The artistry is excellent, and even though written seperatly, the vocals and music mesh very well.
Even if you arn't a fan of the band in general, you may well like this CD anyway. Submitted by a reviewer (Pleasant Hill, Ca, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Fantastic album.. Great album overall but definite stand out tracks are: I Won't Believe, And I..., and Approaching Lightspeed.
I would recommend this album to fans of VNV Nation, Assemblage 23 or Neurotic Fish. Submitted by Solitude (Toronto) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.

Cognizant of the fact that adult contemporary folk-rock wasn't getting a fair shake on the major-label level, Sister Hazel opted out of its deal in order to self-release CHASING DAYLIGHT, the band's first studio effort since 2000's FORTRESS. Clinging to a straightforward rock sound that draws from the same well of inspiration as Hootie & The Blowfish and Counting Crows, this Floridian quintet has continued writing songs steeped in the intricacies of love and relationships. Frontman Ken Block has a particular knack for ruminating over heartbreak, loss, and devotion via the self-penned soaring desperation of "Your Mistake" and anthemic "Sword and Shield."
These Gainesville rockers also hooked up with a number of famous songwriting collaborators including '80s pop star Richard Marx (the chugging "Life Got In The Way") and former Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers drummer Stan Lynch (an ethereal "Hopeless"). Other highlights include the soulful "Killing Me Too," jaunty "Swan Dive," and gorgeous, harmony-soaked "Can't Believe." Although there's nothing quite ground-breaking about CHASING DAYLIGHT, these dozen cuts are still a solid rock & roll effort that will undoubtedly ...

| | Judee Sill Heart Food CD (1973)
Casting Shadows album
$13.79 Judee Sill's second and final LP, 1973's orchestral tour-de-force HEART FOOD, closes with a miniature square-dance coda after all the artful chorales of "The Donor." In hindsight, it's instructive to compare Sill's skillful arrangements with the hippie grandiosity permeating Neil Young epics like "Expecting To Fly" and "Broken Arrow" (from Buffalo Springfield's AGAIN). Like a psychedelic schoolmarm, Sill brings an impressive emotional discipline and strict musical order to even her most ambitious forays.
It remains uncanny how little of Judee Sill's troubled, quasi-criminal life history is actually reflected in her music. For her contemporary Gram Parsons, his chaotic, somewhat diffuse personality found a bulwark in country music, which then drove him to redefine American rock in its image. For the made-of sterner-stuff Judee Sill, it's a suprisingly hardcore Catholicism that runs throughout ...
