||unsurprisingly, the Mac still have that spark|
it was with some hesitation that i bought this album, knowing that the Mac are, like all the other true legends of rock and roll, "getting older too." but having seen their stellar video The Dance, i should've known far better than that. Lindsey Buckingham should have already cemented his position as a true rock god by now, but if by some bizarre quirk of the cosmos he hasn't, then this album should do the trick. his songs are equal parts thrilling, daring, bizarre, confusing, and exhiliarating. Mick Fleetwood hits his skins with fresh aplomb (i give credit to him for reinventing his style somewhat, making the Mac appear vastly fresher than i would have thought possible, and without sounding trendy in the slightest). Stevie Nicks sings (and looks, ye gods!) like she's STILL somehow in her 20s, and John McVie is still one of the most reliable and tasteful bassists on the planet. the only questionable spot is when Stevie delivers yet another song in her trademark "lost little girl" vein; but one loser out of 18 songs is not too shabby at all! they still have their spark, and it's blazing here. if you don't get this album very soon, you are just plain nuts.

||New Fleetwood Mac?|
Is it a new Stevie Nicks album doubled with a new Lindsey Buckingham album? Well, Mick Fleetwood IS on drums and John Mcvie Is on bass but Christine McVie's contributions (or lack thereoff) make this seem like something other than "new Fleetwood Mac" There are some really good songs here. The ones that are good are really good. The ones that are bad are REALLY bad. Lindsey's trademark experimentation is all too apparent... this could have been called "Tusk 2" The track list is very indulgent... it would have been a tighter album if there had been fewer songs. Sometimes less is more. Of course true fans want every second of music they can get from Stevie and Lindsey so this album (along with the upcoming tour) will no doubt be a success. Highlights on the album are "Peacekeeper", a darker tale in song than what we Fleetwood Mac fans are used to, but catchy. Another highlight that harkens back to the Stevie from the 80's is "Throwndown" (recently heard on television's "Friends"). Lindsey displays his usually wizardry with the guitar and does a decent job vocally on a couple of songs, but there is the usual odd noises and mysterious sounds that he feels he needs to include every chance he gets. I'm a fan of the second, third, fourth and incarnation of Fleetwood Mac (and the resurrected third of "The Dance" fame) but I'm not sure this latest is Fleetwood Mac in the traditional sense... maybe Buckingham Nicks?

||Wicked and Wild, new Mac defintely Attacks|
After listening to this cd a few times through, it truly is a battle between Stevie and Lindsey. With 18 tracks, the album is long and it should be, after 15 years the studio album would be large. However with this album, its Lindsey's Solo work vs Stevie's Solo work with Mick and John playing in the middle. Tracks like "Muddle... " have Lindsey's guitar attacks at full throttle and one would never know that Christine McVie provided the background vocals only for that track. The beautiful vocals would have been better on either "Steal Your Heart Away" or a Stevie track. However, even with that, the album could be the new Tusk album, as its rough and edgy and on first listen, somewhat disturbing. However, Don't let that prevent you from listening and enjoying it. It truly is a work of art and a great new sound and look for Mac. Plus, anything that brings about a Fleetwood Mac concert has got to be good! The Bonus CD is excellent with both Lindsey and Stevie having 1 studio track, Lindsey doing Bob Dylan's "Love Minus Zero" and Stevie's original piece "Not Make Believe" The other 2 audio selections are live versions from AOL of "PeaceKeeper" and Stevie's "Say You Will" Get it, defintely a wonderful addition for any fan of Fleetwood Mac and great rock music.

||I'll be coming back to this one|
Fleetwood Mac is one of those bands whose albums I keep coming back to. "Tusk" finds itself in my cd player regularly, and the same goes for the less popular "Behind the Mask" en "Tango in the Night" With "Say you Will", Fleetwood Mac have done it again. The album has no evident weaknesses and is a must for all Fleetwood Mac fans. I'll be playing this for years to come....
