Vince Neil at the Whisky. It may not be the Beatles at the Star Club -- or even Otis Redding at the Whisky -- but it has weight, a sense of history, and purpose. The Whisky was one of Mötley Crüe's mainstays, so when the singer returns for a show and a souvenir live album years later, it should be an event. It's not. It's an oldies show, a Crüe revue performed by the man himself. Even Vince Neil knows that nobody comes to see him to hear his solo songs. He knocks out "Look in Her Eyes" (remember that? The first tune on his first solo record) early in the show, devoting himself to the Nikki Sixx songbook for the rest of the record, hitting most of the big tunes: "Kick Start My Heart," "Home Sweet Home," "Looks That Kill," and "Dr. Feelgood," among them, of course, along with the de rigeur cover of Brownsville Station's "Smokin' in the Boysroom." Though there are some songs that are firmly for the die-hard fans -- fan favorites and album tracks like "Knock 'Em Dead, Kid" are revived -- this still plays like an oldies show with all the schtick that entails, including a flirtation with medleys, as he has "Girls Girls Girls" slide into "Same Ol' Situation." Neil sometimes is in thin voice, stretching the limits of his upper register, and, on record at least, his exhortations to the crowd get tedious, particularly since they're just variations on "make some noise" and "get your hands up," usually punctuated with some conjugation of "f*ck" (although "get your drunken hands up" on "Dr. Feelgood" is a nice turnabout on an old favorite). All in all, it's perfectly respectable and not a bad listen (something that can't honestly be said about Neil's other solo efforts), but it's a nostalgia-fest -- Vince is dedicated to keeping his music alive, and he's doing a good job with it, but you gotta believe like he does to have Live at the Whisky: One Night Only work for you. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| Live One Night Only Music Review Average Rating: (3.1 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews What the Hell ? I have been a huge Motley Crue fan, all my life. I grew up with their music. I have never really liked Vince's solo stuff that nuch, but I figured What the Hell. It's mainly Crue songs, it's live, he's touring. How bad can it be. Save your money, go get a copy of "The Dirt" and read that instead. Its much more entertaining. This sounds like a Motley Crue cover band. What happened Vince? Wow, this is the Vince I'd like to forget. I saw the Crue at the beginning of the Carnival of Sins tour, and Vince sounded stellar. That's right, STELLAR! Didn't miss a word, wasn't out of breath, and everything sounded great. But I've seen Vince quite a few times, the one that misses words, is out of breath, and tries to run the entire line of lyrics in one breath. That's exactly what this album sounded like. I'm glad he at least did a song off his solo album. But anything that Vince or any member of the Crue puts out, I'll buy. Crueheads are best, **** the rest! To Die For This cd is to die for. Vince's voice is to die for. I would have paid $100.00 for this piece of gold. I listened to this cd of his for days at a time over and over. I think this should really get 10 stars!!!! I hope that voice never quits singing!!! Go Vince!!!! Submitted by Suzie (Manhattan, KS USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Totaly Awesome "Great to hear good ol' rockin roll" Submitted by doc (Sydney Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
An ass-kickin' good time This album is what it is...a live album recorded at a club. Everyone is drunk and having a good time listening to a rock n' roll legend. Vince and co. show us what it would be like if we could go back in time to watch the Crüe before they were the greatest rock n' rol outfit to ever rock the stage. | | Ozzy Osbourne Ozzmosis CD (1995) Remastered
Live One Night Only album
$7.59 Let us all be thankful that Ozzy's retirement didn't stick. It supposedly lasted for three days, after which he got bored and started working on this project. Heavy, riff-intensive tunes, progressive song structures and a little psychedelia give OZZMOSIS a definite Sabbath flavor. Ozzy must have been in touch with whatever inspired early classics like PARANOID and MASTERS OF REALITY. Witness the extremely chunky "Thunder Underground," which can stand up next to "Sweet Leaf" and "Symptom Of The Universe" as an archetype of hard rock. The trippy guitar in "Ghost ...

Live One Night Only album
$10.45 Welcome to Hell, and Venom themselves, for that matter, have long been the subject of heated debate within the heavy metal community. Few bands have been as recognizably influential yet so universally panned by critics during their careers, and, of course, it was this, their first long-player, which ignited most of that controversy in the first place. This shocking debut was the scene of a bloody, head-on collision between Black Sabbath's original heavy metal commandments and lyrical obsessions with all things demonic, and Motörhead's unparalleled distortion and breakneck speed. Make no mistake: Welcome to Hell, more than any other album, crystallized the elements of what later became known as thrash, death, black, and virtually every other form of extreme metal, serving as a primer for thousands of ...
