| Punk Jazz: Jaco Pastorius Anthology Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Jaco - the legend I just finished Bill Milkowski's excellent book "Jaco: The Extraordinary and the Tragic Life of Jaco Pastorius, "the World's Greatest Bass Player", and it brought back tons of memories from my youth. I listen to this double CD and I got overwhelmed. Some of the songs are not very strong, some are poor recordings, but on each of them one could see Jaco's creativity and ability of making music. He was unique and this CD shows it. From the first song recorded by himself and his own bedroom at the age of 17 (and playing all the instruments), to his collaborations with Albert Mangelsdorf (just an outstanding song from Mangelsdorf's own Trilogue CD), Pat Metheny, and countless more. All the way to Birdland, Blackbird and hihs own Word of Mouth. So much in so little time. I know, I know, we do sometimes make hears out of villans once they die, but Jaco - in spite of his human flaws - had genius and there is no doubt that he was (and still is) head and shoulders above the crowd. A must have CD for any Jaco fan. Submitted by a reviewer (Toronto, ON, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
