Admittedly, this album takes a few listens to sink in, but doesn't every great album? These guys have been way ahead of their time since the mid 90's. The lyrical and musical depth of this band is far superior than your run of the mill, chugga chugga hardcore band. People who say the lyrics are "too thesaurus like" are just idiots who can't see through the above average prose to find the great meanings in the songs. The guitars and drums are amazing: intricate riffing and tight time signature changes. If anybody loved Strongarm Advent of a Miracle, the drummer is the same Steven Klesaith from that legendary band and the musical style is somewhat similar (due to the fact that the bands were friends growing up I guess). Anyway, any melodic hardcore fan knows that Shai Hulud does it better than any band out there and this long-awaited release proves just that. This is by far one of the best hardcore albums of 2003.
