 Great Swing
The DVD version of this performance is an improvement on the video tape (which I already had), and includes an excerpt from the Cobham/Bellson collaboration from the same series. If you are a drummer and don't know Bellson's work, this is a must-see. He was the first to play with a double-bass kit (Gretsch made it, I think), and although no longer at the height of his technical powers here, still has plenty of tricks in his bag, along with great abilities as an accompanist and bandleader. This edition of the band includes the Brecker brothers, Benny Bailey, and many other fine sidemen. Howard Johnson, (baritone sax) plays several blues choruses on a penny whistle. Great stuff.

HOPE FLOATS: Birdee (Sandra Bullock) is an unassuming housewife whose life is disrupted when her husband (Michael Pare) reveals his infidelity to her on a Jerry Springer-style talk show.
