The Kingston Trio (Dave Guard, Nick Reynolds, Bob Shane) were a California-based folk harmony group who took refined (some would say sanitized) traditional folk songs to the top of the charts several times during their peak years of 1957 to 1963. Their remarkable commercial success really began in 1938, when folklorist Frank Warner field-recorded North Carolina banjo player Frank Proffitt playing a vicious Appalachian murder balled entitled "Tom Dula." That song, morphed and cleaned up a bit, became the Kingston Trio's first big hit 20 years later as "Tom Dooley." The trio took another old banjo player's tune, Clarence Ashley's "Greenback Dollar," on to the charts a couple years later and, after Guard's departure in 1961 (he was replaced by John Stewart), completed the banjo hat trick by taking Pete Seeger's "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" to the top as well. Hardly authentic in style and approach, the Kingston Trio nonetheless opened the eyes of record labels to the commercial possibilities of folk music, thus ensuring a good time for all during the so-called folk revival. This collection has the big hits but is pretty short in length. ~ Steve Leggett

Personnel: Odile Abrel (harp); Christophe Guiot (violin); Jean Paul Minalli Bella (viola); Jean-Philippe Audin (cello). Audio Mixer: Jeff "Bucko" Biggers. Liner Note Author: Geoff Zanelli. Recording information: Guillaume Tell Studios, Paris, France. If Hitman sounds like a generic title for a movie to begin with, especially considering that the hired killer is a well-established film archetype (it seems reasonable to assume that there have been many more professional assassins in the cinema than there ever were in real life), then it only adds to the schematic impression of such a work to note that it is based on a video game. The particular hitman ...

$11.39 NEM-S-ISS: The Man, the Music, the BusinessThe task of any great artist/musician is to entertain the masses through an infectious, addictive sound of good quality music and lyrics that stimulate more than the ears. In Toronto, this mission is especially difficult because of the Canadian population, strongly lacking in hip-hop culture, and other impressionable factors such as promotional barriers. This reality however has in no way barred 23 year old Toronto native Nem-S-Iss from diving head on into the music scene, keeping it real for the hip-hop music heads. Working closely with the well received SoundSmith Productions team also originating directly out of Toronto; Nem-S-iss has generated a distinct sound and style, exclusively reflective of his undying street roots. Success, Progress, Pain, Growth, Respect, Loyalty and Independence, are the most dominant themes which tend to stand out most in his music. As an artist Nem-S-Iss considers himself versatile and “unclassifiable”, therefore he doesn’t stay committed to designations such as “thug” or “gangster” which systematically define and ultimately destroy the black man in today’s society. Although these days young male rappers seem to come a dime a dozen, and one seems to be more generic and forgettable than the next, there now stands an artist, a man, a real musician who is prepared to keep you engaged, entertained and definitely impacted. With three albums, two successfully received mix taps under his belt, Nem-S-Iss is the man; Real Life On Wax is the label, or better yet, the lifestyle. Nem-S-Iss as a man personifies the term and physical essence of “streetlife”, but keeping in mind that this industry ...
