| | Juke Joint Blues 1950'S-1960'S CD
Juke Joint Blues is another fine reclamation project from Japan's busy P-Vine Records, collecting singles and rarities from the Modern, RPM, Kent, and Meteor labels, many of them previously unreleased. Why some of these sides weren't issued back in the day is a mystery, since everything here is solid early R&B, done with fervor and a loose, ragged elegance. Almost half the disc is given over to ten tracks from Long Gone Miles, with the great George Smith on harmonica, including a wonderful and spirited version of Fats Domino's "Hello Josephine." Other highlights here are Walter Miller's desperate and tortured vocal on "My Last Mile," the odd, sparse percussion (which would make Tom Waits proud) on Jim Lockhart's "Boogie Woogie Baby," and four fine vocal turns by Eddie Lang, especially on "I'm Beggin' With Tears," which builds marvelously over an infectious "Iko Iko" rhythm. Fans of early R&B will treasure this well-sequenced compilation. ~ Steve Leggett

Juke Joint Blues 1950'S-1960'S album
$14.29 LTM are pleased to present Twin Evil Stars, the second album by Dead Cowboys, the cult Liverpool alt pop band with roots in The Room and Benny Profane. Dead Cowboys offer a distinctly British slant on twisted Americana and bottom-of-the-glass heartache. Singer/songwriter Dave Jackson rips through a stash of raw-edged, country-peppered prairie gems as menacing as they are dynamic. The band describe Twin Evil Stars as a 'cowgoth' hybrid of post-punk folk, fused to classic torch ballad pop. Boutique. 2005.
That Dave Jackson and Becky Stringer have persisted in their musical dream for almost a quarter-century is testimony to their dedication, whether working in the Room, Dust, Benny Profane or their newest effort the Dead Cowboys. Twin Evil Stars, their second full album, finds ...

Juke Joint Blues 1950'S-1960'S CD music
$9.89 Just a few months after Magnificent City came out, rapper Aceyalone came back with a limited-edition mixtape (allegedly only 7,500 copies were pressed) of exclusive tracks, remixes, and other goodies. As to be expected (and desired), three of the songs on Grand Imperial were made with the producer he shared the honors with on Magnificent City, RJD2, who is really quite talented in his ability to make a diverse set of beats while still sounding like himself, and all three tracks included here continue to prove ...
