This DVD, based on real-life accounts from the Quecreek Miners, is a true story of hope, friendship and courage that enthralled a nation. One of the most dramatic events of the summer of 2002 was the story of the nine Pennsylvania coal miners who were trapped inside a mine for more than three days. Miraculously, all nine miners survived, providing an uplifting and happy ending to a story most thought would end in tragedy. This made-for-TV movie tells the miners' story from their point of view using actual locations and footage from the real life Quecreek mine. Pennsylvania Miners' Story Movie Review A worthwhile movie for the family!! My review is coming from a different perspective. I actually worked on the film. These actors in the film went through alot of physical as well as mental abuse to portray what actually happened to these guys in real life.
Having had two of the real miners on the set to relay all there actions, thoughts, and commitment to each other to try and get everyone out alive is a testament to there strong will and years of friendship. And to make it out with practically not even a scratch is just amazing considering in most of these cases no one survives. Submitted by RColletta (Corona,CA,USA) Was This Review Helpful? | | Day The Earth Stood Still DVD (1951)
Pennsylvania Miners' Story film
$9.69 Beginning with a documentary style that immediately hooks the viewer, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, based on the Harry Bates short story "Farewell to the Master," becomes as much a human interest story as it does a sci-fi B-movie classic. The film soberly depicts the arrival of an alien dignitary, Klaatu (Michael Rennie), who has come to earth with his deadly robot, Gort (Lock Martin), to deliver the message that earthlings must stop warring among themselves--or else. After being shot at by ignorant, panicky military guards, Klaatu is brought to a Washington, D.C., hospital, where he begs a sympathetic but frank Major White (Robert Osterloh) to gather all the world's leaders so he can tell them more specifically what he has come 250 million miles to warn them about. Losing patience, Klaatu slips into the human world, adapting a false identity and living at a boarding house where he meets a smart woman with a conscience, Helen Benson (Patricia Neal), and her inquisitive son, Bobby (Billy Gray). Both mother and son soon find themselves embroiled in the complex mystery of Klaatu, his message, ...

$29.69 Viktor Navorksi (Tom Hanks) falls into a bureaucratic crack in the system when his plane lands at New York's JFK airport from the fictitious country of Krakozhia. Unbeknownst to Navorski, his country fell prey to a military coup while he was in flight, causing it to be wiped from the map. This effectively renders his passport null and void, meaning he cannot legally enter America, nor return to his now nonexistent home. Barely able to speak English, the hapless Navorski is offered a sanctuary of sorts by kindly staff who allow him to freely inhabit the airport. With little money to his name, Navorski has to quickly shed his feelings of displacement, confusion, and alienation to survive. Fortunately he has a resourceful nature, and makes a meager amount of money for food by returning baggage carts. As time passes he becomes more comfortable with his surroundings, even finding time to pursue a passing stewardess, Amelia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), who has captured his heart. But airport denizens such as customs chief Frank Dixon (Stanley Tucci), who is a constant thorn in Navorski's side, remind him of his outsider ...
