| Da Capo Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) ACE OF BASE JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER! I just recently purchased the new japapnese import album of ACE OF BASE "Da Capo" with the 3 bonus tracks from CD UNIVERSE, and it is by far the band's best album to date! The 2 bonus tracks ("Don't Stop" and "Summer Days") makes it worth the pickup of the japanese cd version alone! The sound quality is far better than the other European imports, and this album in particular, sounds as though it were remastered with 24 bit, 2K technology, as well as the other ACE OF BASE re-issue titles in Japan. If you don't already own this cd, then I would definitely suggest getting the Japanese import. Although it's a little more expensive than the other European imports that carry it, it's definitely worth the price (I already have 2!)! And if you already own the European import title, go ahead and pick this one up! I did, and am VERY glad that I did. I'm now working on obtaining the re-release japanese import titles of ACE OF BASE done in 24 bit, 2K technology with bonus tracks (excluding "The Sign" which will have no bonus tracks :-( ) Submitted by a reviewer (Dallas, TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Da Capo is one of the best. I have the European version of Da Capo
and is great but I will try the Japan version. I love AOB since The Sign and I will listen to them for the rest of my life. Submitted by fabou2557 (Atlanta, GA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Bananarama Deep Sea Skiving (London) CD (1983) (Import) Bonus Tracks; England; Reissue
Da Capo CD music
$9.39 Bananarama's first album is by far their best. Before they fell in with the lucrative but often boring Stock, Aitken & Waterman assembly line starting with 1986's True Confessions, Siobhan Fahey, Sarah Dallin, and Keren Woodward were unashamedly poppy, but they had enough artistic credibility to create a debut album that, barring a couple of small missteps, actually works as an album instead of a collection of singles with some filler. (They were even hip enough for their first single to be produced by ex-Sex Pistol Paul Cook.) Of course, the singles are terrific. There are four British chart hits in these 11 songs, and every one of them still sounds terrific, where later hits like "I Can't Help It" are terribly dated. The slinky "Shy Boy" and a rattling cover of the Marvelettes' "He Was Really Sayin' Somethin'" (co-starring the trio's early mentors Fun Boy Three) are classic girl group songs updated for the '80s, every bit as credible as any mid-level Spector or Motown singles. That Cook-produced debut single, "Aie a Mwana" (oddly left off the album's first U.S. edition), now sounds mostly like a curio of the brief tropical craze that hit the U.K. in 1981/1982, but "Cheers Then" is a heartbreaker, an absolutely lovely lost-love song that's possibly the best thing Bananarama ever did and certainly one of the top singles to come out of Great Britain in 1982. Surprisingly, though, Deep Sea Skiving has some ...
| | All Girl Summer Fun Band 2 CD (2003)
Da Capo music CDs
$12.79 On their second album, the All Girl Summer Fun Band offer more of the spunky punk-pop with which they established themselves, taking much inspiration both from 1960s girl groups and late-'70s/early-'80s girl group-influenced punk and new wave bands. It's not an original format, no, and it's got its limitations. All that said, this is highly enjoyable and superior for its genre, with genuinely catchy, likable melodies and fairly witty, flippant lyrics. Boy-girl, or at least young man-young woman, romance is a theme that runs through a lot of these songs. But there are twists that you wouldn't likely have heard on Shangri-Las or even Blondie records, like a flame with a "Video Game Heart," or a plea to "Becky" to borrow her boyfriend. Most of this is uptempo stuff that's fun to bop along to, but it helps when a little more diversity creeps in, as in the slower and more atmospheric "Daydreaming" with its eerie high drones, the creepy synthesizer hooks of "Video Game Heart," ...
| | Our Brilliant Careers: Cherry Red Rarities 1981-1983 CD (2003) (Import) United Kingdom
Da Capo songs
$15.85 This assortment of 22 odds and ends released by the Cherry Red label in the early '80s contains, as the liners rightly note, "tracks not previously available on CD, or now deleted, or just pretty hard to find." But it's not solely of interest as a rarity compilation, for Cherry Red was one of the more idiosyncratic and high-quality indie rock labels of the early '80s, and this also functions as a good overview of the range of sounds the label explored at the time. Undoubtedly this will get much of its sales mileage from the pre-Everything But the Girl tracks by Ben Watt (all three songs from his 1982 debut release are here) and Tracey Thorn (her non-LP B-side "Goodbye Joe"), as well as two of the three songs from the first Everything But the Girl 7" ("Feeling Dizzy" and "On My Mind"). A couple of other names of some renown are lurking in the offerings by the Reflections (who included Alternative TV's Mark Perry) and Five or Six (with future Spring Heel Jack co-founder Ashley Wales). It's not easy to summarize the music on this CD in a single review due to the diversity, but generally it had a wispier and more melancholy flavor than most late new wave/early post-punk, sometimes in a particularly melodic or easy-on-the-ear ambient pop vein (as in the Watt/Thorn-affiliated cuts). That's just part of the Cherry Red aesthetic, however: the Reflections songs are as abrasive as you'd expect from a Mark Perry project, and the Nightingales and Five or Six play spiky early-'80s ...
