A Navy SEAL sent to war-torn Nigeria to rescue a doctor fights to also take refugges to safety. Stars Bruce Willis,, Monica Bellucci, Cole Hauser; directed by Antoine Fuqua. Special edition features include audio commentary from director & writer, the "making of", deleted scenes, voices of Africa, lots more. Lt. A.K. Waters (Bruce Willis) and his elite team of Navy SEALS have their work cut out for them when they are dispatched to war-torn Nigeria with orders to rescue an American citizen, Dr. Lena Kendricks (Monica Bellucci). The mission is pretty cut and dry except for one glitch: Dr. Kendricks will have to abandon the natives to whom she has been providing healthcare and those that work in the mission where her rudimentary hospital is located. Of course, Dr. Kendricks refuses to leave without her people, forcing Lt. Waters to choose between completing his orders as directed or putting the lives of his men on the line by helping the refugees cross the border to Cameroon on foot. To complicate matters, the group is being pursued by militant guerillas who destroy everything in their path. Willis is in top DIE HARD form as Lt. Waters, a touch-as-nails military man who confronts his conscience and makes decisions that surprise even him as he finds himself influenced by the stubborn Dr. Kendricks. Directed by Antoine Fuqua (TRAINING DAY), this film offers an enlightening and disturbing look at the conditions that permeate war-torn countries. Theatrical Release: MARCH 7, 2003 Tears Of The Sun Reviews: "...Willis does easily what some actors cannot do at all, playing minimalist hard-boiled heroism..."-- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times "...[Fuqua] knows how to stage a skirmish in the foliage so that each leaf glistens with waxy moonlit peril...and he makes gripping use of silence..."

one word..... WOW MAN what I wouldn't have given to have been the chick these SEAL guys were rescuing! HOLY C#@P, every guy in this movie....on the U.S. side, was FINE! Now the movie itself was sad. Good, but sad. Put it this way, I wouldn't want to live there! Bruce Willis is plain GREAT! Very graphic scenes though, so be prepared for a brutal ride! Bruce Willis At His Best Bruce fits in with this movie perfectly. These are the kind of movies that he should be in. Submitted by Blake (Brandon,MS) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Top notch thoughtful action flick Considering Hollywood's long gestation cycles, Tears was certainly developed during the Clinton years - a time when genocide in far away lands didn't seem worth fighting for. This sets the stage for a Navy SEAL team evac in war-torn Nigeria.
For my money, this is one of the best post-modern war movies yet. The grit, detail and lack of sentamentality is terrific. Faced with tactical decisions that become overshadowed with moral choices, Lt. Waters responds to his conflicted conscience and his SEAL team responds with the kind of unsung professionalism, skill,
and military mastery that holds off opposition forces many times their number. The battle scenes are particularly gritty and Antoine Fuqua deserves commendation for holding a light up to the bestial cruelty that goes on in Nigeria and similar countries in the name of ethnic cleansing. Tears Of The Sun review
$8.55 In 1965, 400 American troops faced an ambush by 2,000 enemy troops in the Ia Drang Valley (also known as the Valley of Death), in one of the most gruesome fights of the Vietnam War. WE WERE SOLDIERS is a detailed recreation of this true story: of the strategies, obstacles, and human cost faced by the troops that participated. The story focuses on the lieutenant colonel that led the attack, Hal Moore (Mel Gibson), and a civilian reporter who accompanied them, Joseph Galloway (Barry Pepper), as well as a number of other soldiers who were involved.
This is an unusual Vietnam film in that it also shows the North Vietnamese perspective on the battle; their leader Lieutenant General Nguyen Huu An (Don Duong) is depicted as a brave soldier and smart commander. And in addition to the many gory battlefield sequences--which seem to have been influenced by SAVING PRIVATE RYAN--we also see how the carnage of war affects those left behind, the soldiers' wives and ...

$10.29 James Clayton is fired up. A bartender by night and computer hacker in the few hours of daylight for which he manages to leave his water bed, the kid is flying high, on a roll with a laid-back lifestyle that suits him just fine. Played by an agile Colin Farrell, Clayton is also a heartthrob with his five o'clock shadow and chiseled pecks. A cushy job offer from Dell computers peaks his interest in securing a professional career, and at the same moment he meets Walter Burke (Al Pacino), a recruiter from the CIA. Though Clayton's better judgement tells him to stay away from the shady Burke, he is curious to learn whatever he can about his father, who was also a CIA agent, killed in the line of duty. Clayton is sent to an intensive CIA training camp called "The Farm," where he quickly learns the gravity of his decision as he undergoes gruelling tests of physical, mental, and psychological strength. His romantic interest in the gorgeous, tough-as-nails Layla (Bridget Moynahan), a fellow trainee, becomes a weakness as the pressure of the tests steadily increases. Finally, without warning, Clayton is thrown into action as he and Burke go head-to-head in a mission that is more dangerous than either of them realize. With ...

Tears Of The Sun movie DVD
$10.75 The long, strange trip of Dr. Timothy Leary, alternately lionized and despised as the High Priest of 1960s LSD subculture, has inspired generations in search of self-discovery and expanded consciousness. This authorized documentary of Leary's life pays homage to Leary and other '60s counterculture personalities such as Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters--who inspired Tom Wolfe's THE ELECTRIC KOOL-AID ACID TEST--and Acid Test house band The Grateful Dead. Like other films that deal with the work of iconoclastic American heroes, such as WILLIAM S. BURROUGHS: COMMISSIONER OF SEWERS and GROWING UP IN AMERICA--spotlighting '60s political radicals like Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin--this film offers testament to the power of revolutionary thought.
