Led by the lusty growl of Dick Valentine, the Electric Six recreate a 1970s dancefloor for rejects of both heaven and hell to boogie down upon. On a scandalous and smart 2003 debut, the Detroit band stirs metal, Southern rock, glam, and more, into a delirious post-punk stew, with lyrics of glorious nonsense such as "fire in the disco/fire in the Taco Bell." And the absurd lines are delivered by Valentine with such Bon Scott bravado and passion that it's near-impossible to divine just how serious is Electric Six. They're a graver Darkness and a sillier Tenacious D, a magnificent enigma with a genuinely fun first record.

A great cd of this band, too difficult to find in Spain (I'd to bought it here). A great combination between rock'n'roll and disco music. Also funny lyrics and good rythims.

I heard this band in a club. It was one of those tunes that drove me directly to the dj and ask. "Synthesizer" adopts a late 70's and early 80's body language. Catchy melody and retro voice. This song only makes the purchase worth while. Frankly, PLAY IT LOUD. THIS makes you DANCE!

fire got its name because almost every song refers to something burning hotter than hell, and never gets old, dont drive while playing this one, you might get a ticket for speeding. no real category for it, maybe punk disco, whatever, it rocks.

Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys make up Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, who were responsible for some of the catchiest and brightest synth pop that the '80s had to offer. O.M.D.'s material was a step above other keyboard pop music of the time, thanks to the combination of intelligently crafted hooks and colorful rhythms that bounced and jittered with pristine charm. These 1968 live recordings from the Filmore East and West are the definitive live document of San Francisco's premier psychedelic group. 1968 was prime time for the Airplane, as the instrumental interplay between Kantner, Casady and Kaukonen had really begun to gel. So too had the interaction between lead vocalists Grace Slick and Marty Balin reached near-telepathic heights, and it can all be heard here. From the mind-melting proto-acid-rock of "Somebody to Love" to ribald, bluesy brashness of "Plastic Fantastic Lover," this is the Airplane in full flight. POINTED HEAD also makes it plain that the early Airplane had a special way with cover tunes. Folk god Fred Neil's "Other Side of This Life" gets a furiously rocking revision, and Donovan's "Fat Angel" is stretched out to encompass some wonderfully trippy jamming. BLESS ITS POINTED LITTLE HEAD is a candid but flattering photo of this seminal American band.
Jefferson Airplane's first live album demonstrated the group's development as concert performers, taking a number of songs that had been performed in concise, pop-oriented versions on their early albums -- "3/5's of a Mile in 10 Seconds," "Somebody to Love," "It's No Secret," "Plastic Fantastic Lover" -- and rendering them in arrangements that were longer, harder rocking, and more densely textured, especially in terms of the guitar and basslines constructed by Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady. The group's three-part vocal harmonizing and dueling was on display during such songs as a nearly seven-minute version of Fred Neil's folk-blues standard "The Other Side of This Life," here transformed into a swirling rocker. Live at the Cheetah, Vol. 1 (1971) and Vol. 2 (1973) elevated the popularity of the Fania All-Stars significantly, as did the film Our Latin Thing (Nuestra Cosa) (1972), which included live footage from the Cheetah gig. So in 1973 label head Jerry Masucci brazenly went ahead and booked Yankee Stadium at the cost of $180,000 for a one-night concert. It was a gamble that paid off in spades when the concert, featuring Típica '73, El Gran Combo, and Mongo Santamaría, in addition to the Fania All-Stars, drew a crowd of roughly 45,000. Problem was, the crowd rushed the field mid-show -- a condition that was not allowed under contract, for the fans had to stay in the stands and the performers had to stay on a platform stage because of the delicate nature of the baseball field -- and unfortunately that was the end of the show, as the police intervened and the lights were turned on. Hoping to compound the success of Live at the Cheetah, Masucci had recorded the August 24, 1973, Yankee Stadium show for future release. Portions of it showed up in the film Salsa (1976) and on the two-volume album Live at Yankee Stadium (1976), which was filled out with concurrent material from a concert at Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico. However, Latin-Soul-Rock, issued in 1974, was the first release to feature material from that historical night at Yankee Stadium: "El Ratón," sung by Cheo Feliciano and featuring a standout guitar solo by Jorge "Malo" Santana, and "Congo Bongo," featuring a congo duel between Ray Barretto ...
