| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Universe CD music
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition ...

| | Drive-By Truckers Southern Rock Opera CDs (2001) Digipak
Universe songs
$11.99 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative lack of story-driven albums divided into "Act I" and "Act II" will latch onto SOUTHERN ...

| | Dredg Catch Without Arms CD (2005)
Universe CD music
$8.49 Early on, critics often described Dredg as a metal group. However, the quartet has since matured into a hard-edged indie-rock ensemble that seeks diversity and refinement in its music. On CATCH WITHOUT ARMS, the band favors highly orchestrated parts, dense guitar riffs, and powerful drumming. Each song is based around memorable vocal hooks and sensitive lyrical content.
Many tracks on CATCH WITHOUT ARMS have a searching quality to them. Despite the sheer force of the music, this release is ultimately marked by well constructed ...

$9.05 This is an enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks & multimedia computer files.
This extra long CD showcases popular dancehall "riddims" overlaid with DJ Sean Paul's rather pedestrian "toasting." Since he possesses neither an unusual voice ...

| | Robert Palmer Very Best Of The Island Years CD (2005) Bonus Track
Universe album
$10.79 Island's 2005 compilation The Very Best of the Island Years is a near-perfect single-disc overview of Robert Palmer's stint at Island Records, which ran from 1974's Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley to 1985's Riptide. This is regarded by fans and critics alike as his peak creative period, and it also contained his best-known hits, including 1978's "Every Kinda People," 1979's "Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)," 1980's "Can We Still Be Friends," 1981's "Johnny and Mary" and "Looking for Clues," and, of course, 1986's "Addicted to Love" and 1987's "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On." While he continued to chart into the early '90s, only one song -- 1988's "Addicted to Love" rewrite "Simply Irresistible" -- could hold a candle to those hits, and it's here in a live version that concludes the album. While it would have been nice if the original ...

| | Ray Anthony Have You Heard CD (2007)
Universe album
$17.99 In 1942 Ray Anthony enlisted in the US Navy and was placed in charge of his own Service Band, The Dolphins. The band was assigned to the Pacific War Zone. Concerts were played on land and aboard ships, earning The Dolphins the title "Top Service Band In
An alumnus of the Glenn Miller and Jimmy Dorsey orchestras, trumpeter Ray Anthony made his first records with his own band in Chicago during 1946 and 1947 before moving to Los Angeles during the spring of 1949 and initiating a 13-year business relationship with Capitol. The U.K.'s Montpellier label presents 23 uncommon Anthony recordings made between 1949 and 1952. Anthony was able to keep his big band in operation until 1958, both by writing catchy tunes for popular consumption (his magnum opus in this genre was the theme to "Dragnet") and by tending a stable of sweet pop vocalists who appealed to the McCarthy Era's record buying public. Crooners and wallflowers heard on this collection include Dick Noel, Betty Holiday, Tommy Mercer, Pat Baldwin, Ronnie Deauville, Marcie Miller and the Anthony Choir. There is also a jolly group vocal by the band during "Old Oaken Bucket." The Ray Anthony Orchestra swings best on "Marshmellow World," "Now That I Need You," "Have You Heard," ...
